We are looking for a Supplier Quality Engineer I for our facility in Oakville, Ontario

Job Purpose:

The Supplier Quality Engineer supports the Quality and Supply Chain departments in validating that all products supplied to BWXT Precision Manufacturing Inc (BWXT), including related documentation and internal systems used by our Supply Chain partners, adhere to the appropriate BWXT supplied Procedures and Technical Specifications and are compliant with all appropriate requirements of the ASME Section III Code, ISO9001, CSA N285.0 and CSA N299.

Accountabilities:

• The following tasks will be performed on a limited number of projects at a low level of complexity.

• Perform source/Witness Inspections directly at supplier facilities, including but not limited to dimensional inspection, documentation review, etc.

• Identify required Procedure and Technical Specifications by product for each Supplier and validate compliance using appropriate Quality Assurance procedures.

•Confirm Supplier compliance with all appropriate requirements of the ASME Section III Code, ISO9001, CSA N285.0 and CSA N299.

• Prepare inspection reports and associated documentation in accordance with applicable code, standards and specification which include but not limited to CSA N299, CSA N285, customer drawing, customer technical specification, approved inspection and test plan etc.

• Drive supplier corrective action and prepare comprehensive report to provide progress update to customer.

• Implement quality requirements or concerns passed down from customer.

• Supplier monitoring and compliance to specified requirements.

• Support continuous improvement activities and feedback loop correspondences.

• Participate in internal audits as defined.

• Participate in Supply Chain Quality Audits in support of the Lead auditor.

• Support all Internal audits for ISO9001:2015, CSA N285.0 and CAN3-CSA N299.

• Provide support for both internal and external audit activities, as necessary, including customer audits.

• Review receiving inspection reports and release material to the shop floor

• Support Quality Manager in providing training for all Receiving Inspectors in how to validate the conformance of all incoming components and related documentation with attention to the special oversite required for Class 1 Nuclear Grade components.

• Work with Continuous Improvement teams to develop appropriate corrective actions for dispositioning internal NCRs, CARs and SCARs.

• Provide feedback and guidance to the Buyers with respect to providing appropriate detail and references to Procedures and Technical Specifications in Purchase Orders and Packing Lists.

• Support Quality and Purchasing Managers in coordinating Program Managers, Buyers and Production for attendance at source inspection / witnessing of components.

• Support the implementation of BWXT Quality Systems.

• Ensure all regulatory requirements are defined and documented with objective evidence.

• Work to continuously improve programs based on statistical data and needs.

• Ensure correctness of quality documentations such as certifications, records, quality plans, FAI, and inspections.

• Verify first articles (all products) meet BWXT, customer and regulatory requirements.

• Assist the Quality Manager to ensure the Quality Program and regulatory compliance requirements are effectively maintained, implemented, and monitored.

• Assist and support team members with problem solving, countermeasure development, and continuous improvement. Carry root cause through to corrective action.

• Maintain internal quality specifications and documents as required by BWXT, customers or regulatory authorities.

• Follow-up on all countermeasures developed for in house and customer problems.

• Communicates and interacts with Engineering, Production, Supply Chain and Sales to resolve customer complaints and returns.

• Identify gaps, enhancements and create/establish process checklists/forms, work instructions, non-conformance reports and ensure all quality check procedures are put in place.

• Conduct a variety of incoming and/or final inspection on inbound materials from suppliers and outbound products for shipping.

• Assist in preparing periodic quality metric reports to determine product quality and performance.

• Develop and submit quality documents for new product launches to meet customer requirements.

• Support the Quality and Purchasing Managers in determining when process stability and capability studies should be performed on existing processes and supplier performance. Review and analyze results.

• Recommend changes to processes based upon findings and perform follow up to verify effectiveness.

• Evaluate and resolve standard product/process non-conformance issues.

• Support action plans aimed to drive corrective actions to eliminate non-conformances.

• Support the execution team in ensuring on time delivery of completed history dockets for your respective products.

Administration:

• Follow all company policies and health and safety procedures.

• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times when required

• Report any personal workplace injuries to direct supervisor immediately.

• Report safety issues to Quality Manager as soon as possible

• Maintains an acceptable level of performance by following established policies and procedures and participate in continuous improvement efforts by supporting and implementing new ideas.

• Sets a positive example by maintaining a respectful attitude, cooperating with co-workers, management, and internal and external customers.

• Be a productive team member and help meet established departmental and Company goals.

• Report to work for your regularly scheduled shifts on time and ready to work.

• Effectively give and receive feedback and willingly ask questions and seek direction when needed.

• May work any and all shifts/days as required.

• Willingly accepts responsibility of sharing skills and knowledge with other employees.

• Perform all other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Knowledge and Experience

• Post secondary education metrology, quality, or engineering discipline or equivalent experience and education. Bachelor degree an asset.

• 0-3 years of experience in a quality engineering role or related field.

• Knowledge of ASME Code, ISO 9001, CSA N285.0 and N299 quality programs is an asset.

• Previous experience with test data and certification procedures

• Must be able to read and interpret drawings.

• Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficient Computer Skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

• Experience in precision-machined parts manufacturing and related processes including heat treatment, plating, assembly and testing activities.

• Excellent organizational and time management skills with a focus on continuous improvement.

• Strong communication and problem solving skills to work within a team-based environment.

• Exceptional organizational skills with a strong attention to detail and documentation

• Ability to multitask and work on various projects at any given time with competing deadlines

• Ability to work within a team environment and on individual projects.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $59,000 and $86,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
