JOB SUMMARY: The Maintenance Worker reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Egowadiyadagenha Land Based Healing Centre Team Manager which includes matters pertaining to the policies and procedures of Six Nations Elected Council.


The Maintenance Worker is responsible for ground and building maintenance, preventative upkeep, and restorative projects of Egowadiyadagenha Land Based Healing Centre and the Six Nations Crisis Hub properties. The chosen candidate will work within the policies and procedures established by the Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Must have a minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent with one (1) year of maintenance work experience OR Must have a minimum of Grade 10 or equivalent with two (2) years of maintenance work experience.

  • Possess a valid G Driver’s License.

POSITION TITLE:              Egowadiyadagenha Maintenance Worker


REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:


Reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Egowadiyadagenha Land Based Healing Centre Team Manager which includes matters pertaining to the policies and procedures of Six Nations Elected Council.


PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION:


The Maintenance Worker is responsible for ground and building maintenance, preventative upkeep, and restorative projects of Egowadiyadagenha Land Based Healing Centre and the Six Nations Crisis Hub properties. The chosen candidate will work within the policies and procedures established by the Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council.


 KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


 Technical Functions:



  • Performs the day-to-day maintenance of Egowadiyadagenha Land Based Healing Centre and Six Nations Crisis Hub buildings and grounds, equipment and other related assets.

  • Perform daily cleaning and disinfecting of interiors following COVID-19 protocols.

  • Maintain floors in a clean state by sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, and waxing them

  • Empty and clean trash receptacles, collect recycling, and take to recycling depot

  • Clean, sanitize, and supply bathrooms

  • Clean and service custodial equipment as needed

  • Perform minor repairs on furniture, buildings, and equipment

  • Report any safety, sanitary, or fire hazards to the appropriate department

  • Lock and unlock windows, doors, and gates

  • Ensure grounds areas are clean and orderly

  • Assist in the overall preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance of the properties

  • Conduct minor heavy equipment repairs, general building repairs, general building maintenance, and general daily maintenance and custodial services

  • Operate heavy equipment, chainsaw, tiller, floor cleaners, lawn mowers, weed eaters and other equipment in process of completing tasks and duties.

  • Day to day operations and maintenance logging of work completed, outstanding work orders, supplies required, repairs needed, contract workers.

  • Communicate professionally with contractors, tenants, community members.

  • Perform the job in accordance with all applicable standards, policies and regulatory guidelines.

  • Clean, maintain and keep all tools organized and in good working condition.

  • Participates in and completes all required SNGRDC training.

  • Completes WHIMIS training and Ensure Health and Safety Guidelines are followed.

  • Perform other related duties as may be required.


 Communications Functions:



  • Maintains pleasant, open communication with all staff, visitors, guests, clients, etc.

  • Accountable for maintaining quality service and care.

  • Represents Six Nations Elected Council and community in a positive, courteous, cooperative and professional manner.

  • Provides updates and reports to the Team Manager as requested


 Administrative Functions:



  • Attend team meetings as required

  • Participates in staff performance evaluations as applicable

  • Accountable for submission of all invoices related to daily work functions

  • Responsible for implementation of appropriate inventory log and equipment use log

  • Maintains statistics relevant to the position, fulfills annual work plan activities and documents required information.

  • Ability to analyze maintenance building requirements and present them for solution.

  • Ability to understand the importance of confidentiality and maintain it.


 Other Functions:



  • Performs other job-related duties as may reasonably be required by the Team Manager.

  • Will provide support to the Six Nations Emergency Measures Plan by ensuring awareness of the Emergency Measures Plan and assistance as instructed by the Director of Wellbeing

  • It is the responsibility of the employee to be aware of and adhere to all policies and procedures, including those that relate to client safety, staff safety and risk management.


 WORKING CONDITIONS:



  • Work requires extensive physical activity including prolonged standing and walking, lifting of medium-weight objects, shoveling snow, working from ladders.

  • Work requires mental attention to tasks and some concentration of details, particularly when dealing with plumbing, heating, lighting, alarm, and emergency systems.

  • Work may involve occasional interaction with the public.

  • Work may be subject to deadlines, interruptions, and unscheduled hours.

  • Work requires ability to take direction, prioritize, work independently, and cope with many demands and time restraints.


 KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


Minimum Requirements:



  • Must have a minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent with one (1) year of maintenance work experience OR Must have a minimum of Grade 10 or equivalent with two (2) years of maintenance work experience.

  • Ability to operate machinery with capabilities for mowing of grass and removal of snow.

  • A Building technician certificate, a Maintenance Mechanic or Facilities Systems Technician or Apprenticeship Certificate would be an asset.

  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing an asset.

  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance and construction.

  • Possess a valid G Driver’s License.

  • Possess initiative and ability to work independently.

  • Demonstrated experience operating power tools, small/heavy equipment, custodial equipment, and farm/landscaping machinery safely.

  • Knowledge of maintenance techniques, mechanical knowledge and handy man skills

  • Must be able to prioritize and meet deadlines, possess good communication skills.

  • Must pass police record check.

  • Flexible (extra hours may be required on occasion).


 Other Related Skills:



  • Possess initiative and ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Exhibit good organizational skills and ability to take direction.

  • Willing to take appropriate training as required.

  • Must possess excellent communication skills.

  • Good knowledge of the Six Nations Community and highly sensitive to Six Nations culture.

  • Clean and current vulnerable sector police check

  • Abstainer preferred.

  • Represents and promotes Six Nations’ interests relative to Indigenous Mental Health & Addictions Treatment Centre and Wellbeing; seeks to develop sound, professional and working relationships.


With the Public



  • Represents and promotes Indigenous Mental Health & Addictions Treatment Centre in a courteous, cooperative, positive and proactive manner; provides information as requested.


 IMPACT OF ERROR:


Errors in judgement and in the conduct of duties could lead to lost credibility, poor public relation, confusion, duplication of effort and misinformation being given to the Director of Wellbeing, Human Services Committee, Six Nations Elected Council, Government Agencies and the public.


CONTROL:


Guiding principles set by the Department of Wellbeing and Six Nations Elected Council. Works within the administrative policies and procedures established by the Six Nations Elected Council for the Department of Wellbeing and other legislation provided by the respective governments.
