Job Description - 021 -26-2 School Age Childcare Facilitator

The School Age Childcare Facilitator Reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Early Years Outreach Manager or designate.


The School Age Child Care Facilitator is responsible for the delivery of a high-quality program by offering play-based, child-centered learning experiences to support children’s holistic development and to create a hub of support for our community and creating a sense of belonging for school age children. The School Age Child Care Facilitator is part of a team working together to foster relationships with children, parents, staff, community, and students.


 


The School Age Child Care Facilitator will ensure the implementation of “How Does Learning Happen”, Excerpts from ELECT document, and comply with Six Nations Elected Council Employment Policy, the Six Nations Council Health and Safety Guidelines, Before and After School Policies and Procedures and the Parent Handbook.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Diploma within the Educators or Child & Youth sector, or an equivalent college diploma in related field (with some years of experience).


OR



  • Minimum Grade 12 with 2 years’ work experience with children aged 0 to 12 and families

  • Will be 18 years of age or older as required by Early Years Childcare Act


Other Preferred Qualifications:



  • Work experience with special needs children an asset

  • Ability to teach primary words/phrases from either Mohawk/Cayuga Language

  • Sensitive to and act on the individual child’s developmental needs.

  • Ability to be patient, and can relate to children and adults with equal respect and dignity, regardless of life experiences, culture and values

  • Knowledge of WHIMIS will be considered an asset

  • Aware of community diversity concerning culture, values, and customs

  • Excellent computer skills and demonstrated proficiency in current business software.

  • Excellent written and effectual oral communications skills working with adults and children.

  • Good organizational skills and an ability to work independently and as a strong team player, good interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledgeable of the impacts of multi-generational trauma on families and the community

  • Sensitive to and acting on the individual child’s developmental needs.

  • Knowledge of WHIMIS will be considered an asset

  • Preference will be given to Haudenosaunee, Six Nations band members.

School Age Child Care Facilitator


Part time up to 24 hours per week


REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION:


The School Age Child Care Facilitator is responsible for the delivery of a high-quality program by offering play-based, child-centered learning experiences to support children’s holistic development and to create a hub of support for our community and creating a sense of belonging for school age children. The School Age Child Care Facilitator is part of a team working together to foster relationships with children, parents, staff, community, and students.


The School Age Child Care Facilitator will ensure the implementation of “How Does Learning Happen”, Excerpts from ELECT document, and comply with Six Nations Elected Council Employment Policy, the Six Nations Council Health and Safety Guidelines, Before and After School Policies and Procedures and the Parent Handbook.


 


KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Maintaining a high-quality interactive program for families, children, and our community.

  • Identifying areas that will enhance the developmental areas of the child including curiosity, self-esteem, and cultural awareness.

  • Planning, developing, and implementing and evaluating activities/curriculum that will enhance children, group programs and individual activities, indoor and outdoor activities: active and quiet.

  • Ongoing communications with parents and children.

  • Plan, develop and implement activities that coordinate with summer camps/PD days/Mid Winters/March Break activities and outings.

  • Encouraging self-help skills that are age and developmentally appropriate.

  • Provide a resource library for parents/guardians/youth/children of all ages.

  • Outreach and assisting in the promotion of the Before/After School program, fundraising, and activities to attract new children to the center.

  • Cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining furniture, toys and equipment including counter space and sink, in designated area.

  • Maintain an inventory of equipment in designated area, outside and inside, ensuring their return


ADMINISTRATIVE:



  • Maintaining a daily journal and recording observations of behaviors for reports to the immediate Supervisor.

  • Acting as a role model for parents, students, volunteers, other staff, and visitors

  • Assisting with planning and implementing parent meetings or programs

  • Operate within multi-agency networks to ensure the correct support is available

  • Provide one-on-one supports/counseling to parents, caregivers, and children in form of referrals, linkages with other professionals

  • Practice/implement the ELECT framework and How Learning Happens framework or any future childhood developmental tools that may arise while in the position.

  • Plan, develop and produce learning resource materials, creative activities, and workshop audio-visuals for the implementation of programs for all ages

  • On-going upgrading your skills through workshops, courses, training to advance professional development, as required.


COMMUNICATION AND LIAISION:



  • Working cooperatively with all staff enhancing relationships with community resources and collaboration with existing programs and services on and off Six Nations of the Grand River communities

  • Maintaining confidentiality and ensures compliance following Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) legislation regulations

  • Maintaining a team approach to resolving such issues, conflicts and problems that may arise in the process of providing support services

  • Involving supervisor and staff in decision making respecting unit problem solving, planning and development


OTHER RELATED DUTIES:


Any other related duties as assigned by the Early Years Outreach Manager or designate which includes, but is not limited to, participation in the Six Nations Emergency Response Plan, Pandemic Plan of Response, and the Trauma Events Response Team (TERT).


WORKING CONDITIONS:


Work involves mental stress, balancing multiple projects in a workload with broad ranged focus, constant interaction with partners, community members, staff and relevant agencies


Subject to deadlines, interruptions, and evening or weekend work hours, and the ability to take direction, and work effectively and independently.


Expected to walk short distances.


WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:


Must be able to work independently and as a team player with the Six Nations Social Services, Early Years and Outreach and all other work environments.


Establishing positive, collaborative working relationships and linkages among all service providers within all work environments.

IMPACT OF ERROR:


Errors in judgment and in the conduct of duties could lead to loss of credibility, poor public relations, and public confusion, serious impacts on clients and staff, and legal liability to self and to Six Nations Council.

Works within the Six Nations Social Services values, principles, and mission statement, and the Six Nations of the Grand River Child and Social Services policies as set by the Six Nations Council


Works within the policies and procedures established through service contracts by the Six Nations Council and relevant funding agencies.
