JOB SUMMARY: The Sexual Health Nurse reports to the Manager of Primary Care and works under the Senior Manager of Primary and Clinical Care services, in collaboration with on-site supervision from the Nurse in Charge at the Six Nations Public Health Department.

This role is aligned under the Department of Wellbeing – Primary and Clinical Care Services, with direct operational collaboration and program integration alongside the Public Health Department. The position supports shared goals in health promotion, disease prevention, and coordinated community care.

 The Sexual Health Nurse provides specialized, culturally safe sexual and reproductive health services within the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario. This position supports both clinical service delivery and system-level coordination by offering direct care, community education, policy input, and program development. Areas of focus include STI testing and treatment, contraception and pregnancy options, gender-affirming care, and youth and LGBTQ2S+ health promotion. The role is designed to advance equitable access, evidence-based practices, and collaborative integration of services across healthcare partners.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.


• BScN or Diploma in Nursing from an accredited institution.


• Minimum two years’ experience in community, public health, or clinical sexual health setting.


• Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to an insured vehicle.


• Current First Aid and CPR certification.


• Ability to work independently under medical directives.


• Commitment to confidentiality, ethical standards, and culturally safe care delivery.

PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

This position supports both clinical service delivery and system-level coordination by offering direct care, community education, policy input, and program development. KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Functions –

• Deliver evidence-based and trauma-informed care for STI testing, treatment, and prevention, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV, HPV.


• Provide pregnancy testing, options counselling, and contraceptive care (including emergency contraception).


• Administer medications as prescribed under Primary care support and/or under medical directive.


• Lead partner notification, contact tracing, and timely follow-up for infectious cases.


• Support immunization campaigns and public health nursing initiatives as appropriate.


• Participate in gender-affirming care pathways in collaboration with primary care.


• Conduct school-based or youth-focused clinics in collaboration with health promotion teams.

Integration and Program Development

• Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of sexual health programs.


• Actively collaborate with Public Health on surveillance, communicable disease trends, and education initiatives.


• Represent the program at interdisciplinary team meetings, community outreach events, and advisory groups.


• Develop culturally relevant health education tools and contribute to grant writing and reporting.


• Liaise with local healthcare providers and Indigenous community services for coordinated care planning.

Administrative and System Support

• Submit monthly statistics, outcome measures, and service utilization data for internal and public health reporting.


• Maintain EMR documentation and case notes in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards.


• Assist in the preparation of reports for funders and health leadership.


• Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) and risk reduction strategies.

 Community and Education Functions

• Deliver inclusive sexual health education in community, youth, and school-based settings.


• Promote awareness and uptake of harm reduction strategies and safe sex practices.


• Provide one-on-one client education in a respectful, non-judgmental, and confidential manner.


• Serve as a subject matter resource in sexual and reproductive health.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Dynamic work environment including clinic, community, school, and outreach-based settings.


• May require evening or weekend hours for community events or urgent client needs.


• Occasional travel within and outside the community.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Experience in developing and delivering sexual health programs and workshops.


• Familiarity with Indigenous models of health and wellness.


• Demonstrated leadership in client education, policy development, or quality improvement.


• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.


• Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMRs) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Errors in clinical judgment, documentation, or confidentiality may compromise patient care, breach regulatory standards, and negatively impact program integrity and community trust.

CONTROL:

Guided by the policies and procedures of the Department of Wellbeing, the standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario, and applicable health regulations. Works under delegated medical directives and organizational clinical governance.

Must work within the Policies and Procedures established by the Six Nations Elected Council for the Department of Wellbeing.
