Technical Project Manager (Web & Cloud Development)


Client: Alberta Education and Childcare

Reference: ECC-26-08

Contract Type: Contract Opportunity

Term: 12 Months with potential extension of up to 12 additional months at the client's discretion.


About the Opportunity


Alberta Education and Childcare is redeveloping the provincial Kindergarten to Grade 12 curriculum and modernizing curriculum development and delivery through the LearnAlberta platform.


The successful candidate will provide Technical Project Management Services for an active agile cloud software development initiative and additional projects within the Digital Content Management and Delivery branch.


The Technical Project Manager will lead the planning and delivery of technical initiatives with responsibility for managing risks, dependencies, timelines, stakeholder coordination, and cross-project delivery activities while working closely with business and technical teams.


Remote work is permitted, with occasional on-site work in Edmonton, Alberta if required.


Key Responsibilities



  • Provide project management services for the development, implementation, and support of LearnAlberta.ca and related applications.

  • Manage and lead multiple projects and project teams concurrently.

  • Provide technical leadership to project teams.

  • Coordinate project planning, delivery, timelines, dependencies, and risks across multiple initiatives.

  • Provide architectural guidance for cloud and non-cloud solutions.

  • Assign work, monitor progress, and provide project management direction to project staff and consultants.

  • Escalate issues and risks appropriately and in a timely manner.

  • Deliver weekly project status reports to leadership.

  • Lead or support the development of business cases and technical documentation.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and clients to gather requirements and support delivery objectives.

  • Manage projects using industry-standard project management methodologies and tools.

  • Identify, assess, mitigate, and communicate project risks.

  • Utilize approved AI-assisted tools where appropriate to improve project management effectiveness while maintaining accountability for decisions and outcomes.


Mandatory Qualifications


Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience combinations:


Option 1



  • University degree or two-year diploma in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited post-secondary institution.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience working on web-based software development projects.


Option 2



  • One-year certificate in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited post-secondary institution.

  • Minimum 9 years of experience working on web-based software development projects.


Additional Mandatory Requirement



  • Minimum 3 years of direct project management experience leading agile web software development projects.

Cloud-Based Software Delivery



  • Project management on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform

  • Deployment coordination


Project Management Tools



  • Azure DevOps

  • Smartsheet

  • Equivalent project and delivery management tools


Complex Enterprise Systems


Experience with:



  • Multiple integrated systems

  • Authentication and identity services

  • External system integrations

  • Content management functionality

  • Large-scale public-facing applications


Technical Leadership



  • Leading technical discussions

  • Influencing solution design

  • Resolving technical delivery issues

  • Bridging business and engineering teams


Governance and Executive Reporting



  • Project governance

  • Executive reporting

  • Stakeholder communications

  • Decision-making support across multiple projects


Risk Management



  • Risk identification

  • Risk assessment

  • Risk tracking

  • Mitigation planning and execution within web software development environments


Additional Requirements



  • Current résumé detailing education and work history with dates (month/year).

  • Minimum three business references.

  • Completion of a mandatory requirements attestation form.

  • Successful completion of a criminal record check prior to engagement.

  • Ability to comply with security, confidentiality, privacy, and information management requirements.


Contract Details



  • Anticipated start date: October 26, 2026.

  • Initial contract term: 12 months.

  • Potential extension of up to one additional 12-month term.

  • Remote work permitted with occasional attendance in Edmonton, Alberta if requested.
