The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and takes pride in producing accurate work. If you enjoy balancing multiple priorities, solving problems, and contributing to a team-focused environment where your work directly supports the success of the organization, this is an excellent opportunity to build a long-term career with a respected local firm.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Process payroll for salaried and hourly employees and resolve payroll-related inquiries and discrepancies.

  • Prepare and submit CRA payroll remittances, including CPP, EI, and income tax deductions.

  • Prepare Records of Employment (ROEs) and year-end T4 and T4A filings.

  • Coordinate with Human Resources to track employee leave balances, vacation accruals, and payroll reconciliations.

  • Process employee expense reimbursements.

  • Manage accounts payable, including invoice review, payment processing, and vendor communications.

  • Administer employee benefits programs and liaise with benefits providers as required.

  • Maintain the general ledger and perform account reconciliations across multiple accounts with a high volume of transactions.

  • Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.

  • Support capital asset tracking and management.

  • Liaise with financial institutions, service providers, and external stakeholders.

  • Assist external accountants with year-end financial reporting and audit requirements.

  • Lead and coordinate the annual Law Society trust account audit.

  • Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

  • Assist with billing processes and file-related accounting matters as needed.

  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of accounting systems, processes, and operational efficiencies.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting and payroll experience.

  • CPA designation or equivalent accounting credential preferred.

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is considered an asset.

  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, CRA remittance requirements, and year-end payroll processes.

  • Experience preparing T4s, T4As, ROEs, and payroll reconciliations.

  • Experience working with accounting software; ADP experience is considered an asset.

  • Trust accounting experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment, is considered a strong asset.

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and account reconciliation processes.

  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Professional communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.

  • High degree of integrity, discretion, and respect for confidential information.

  • Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Benefits

  • Competitive annual salary of $70,000 - $90,000 based on experience and qualifications.

  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits, including extended health, dental, vision, life insurance, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

  • 3 weeks of vacation to start, plus generous paid sick time.

  • A stable, full-time position with one of the Okanagan's most respected law firms.

  • A collaborative, collegial, and supportive work environment.

  • Autonomy and flexibility in managing your day-to-day responsibilities.

  • Opportunities to contribute meaningfully and make an impact within the organization.

  • A people-focused culture that values teamwork, professionalism, and employee appreciation.

  • Annual summer and holiday celebrations, monthly team events, and recognition of special milestones throughout the year.
