Position Summary

TheADMINISTRATOR ON SITE(AOS) is a key member of the hospital administrative team providing administrative and clinical support for staff within the site during non business hours. The AOS role is an opportunity for individuals who seek leadership challenges to learn about all facets of hospital operations and clinical programs within the hospital. The AOS has a high level of authority and autonomy and is expected to use judgement in making decisions which support attainment of Hospital goals and objectives, while creating an environment that supports the Mission, Vision, Purpose, Principles and Values of the Hospital. The AOS is tasked with addressing emergent issues and facilitating the care of patients across services, other UHN sites or in other facilities.

Duties

  • Managing patient flow and hospital capacity;
  • Liaising with all units / areas to support hospital/nursing operations with emphasis on assigning and directing clinical and non-clinical staff as necessary;
  • Ensuring the appropriate delivery of care utilizing theory and evidence-based practice as a basis for clinical and administrative system decisions;
  • Ensuring effective communication and acting as a consultant to internal/external health care professionals within/outside the Hospital setting and to family/community members;
  • Maintaining professional development of self and facilitates professional development of staff;
  • Ensuring staff complies with quality improvement programs and other quality initiatives;
  • Respond to codes and act as site commander for any emergent issues;
  • Performing cross-functional and other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned and/or required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Baccalaureate Degree Program in Nursing, (must) Master's preferred
  • Required - Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program, Level II: Basic Rescuer certification
  • Current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Up to five (5) years of relevant experience
  • Three (3) years direct patient care experience
  • Two (2) years progressive administrative experience in a nursing setting
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, interpersonal and negotiating skills
  • Effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to organize work and set priorities
  • Effective problem solving and analytical skills based upon a broad general knowledge of the Hospital
  • Effective interpersonal and negotiating skills
  • Knowledge of professional standards and Quality Assurance guidelines (College of Nurses of Ontario)
  • Knowledge of legislation provision, i.e., Employment Standards Act; Substitutes Decision Act; Social Contract Act; Human Rights legislation, etc., which impact on work performed
  • Knowledge of team dynamics with the ability to work effectively as a team leader and team member
  • Knowledge of relevant collective agreements
  • Demonstrated ability to make appropriate decisions, exercise sound judgment and use considerable initiative
  • Demonstrates commitment to continuing education
  • Ability to work independently and function effectively in a constantly changing work environment
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to change quickly and effectively
  • Experience working in a unionized environment preferred
  • Critical care experience preferred
  • Membership in a specialty related organization preferred
  • Must be available weekdays to work the evening and night shift
  • Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code
