Job Description - Aide, Enviromental Services (Cleaner)

Rate of Pay: Annual $43,304 – $58,166 / Hourly $23.794 - $31.959


Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Position Summary


The Full-Time Cleaner (Multi-Site) is responsible for ensuring the office's common areas are kept clean, safe, and well-maintained. This role involves routine, scheduled cleaning and monitoring supplies.


Accountability


The Aide Environmental Services – Cleaner will report directly to the Manager - Real Property


Qualifications



  • Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment).

  • Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects in the Sioux Lookout Zone is an asset.

  • Written and oral communication skills acceptable to the employer that meet the requirements of the role of Aide – Environmental Services.

  • Previous experience in housekeeping, preferably in a health services environment, would be an asset.

  • Must be an independent and self-motivated worker, as well as have the ability to work well within a team.

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Willingness to travel between multiple sites

  • The ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis.


Roles & Responsibilities



  • Perform daily cleaning of offices and common areas in accordance with established cleaning checklists

  • Collect and dispose of garbage, recycling, and hazardous waste (e.g., sharps containers) in accordance with organizational and safety policies

  • Perform floor maintenance such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and buffing as required

  • Carry out weekly, monthly, and annual cleaning routines, including regular checks of items such as needle boxes, soap dispensers, and other supplies.

  • Clean and maintain cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuums, buffers) to ensure it remains in safe working condition.

  • Report safety hazards, unusual incidents, or property damage immediately to the supervisor or manager.

  • Ensure doors and windows are locked and secured when completing duties, particularly when working after hours or across multiple sites.

  •  Request or collect cleaning and maintenance supplies as required.

  • Participate in ongoing education, including Health and Safety training, departmental policies and procedures, and workshops throughout the year.

  • Assist in the orientation and training of new staff, as needed.

  • Create maintenance tickets regarding equipment concerns or breakdowns.

  • Participate in and support quality improvement initiatives and audits.

  • Remain available for call-in shifts as needed.

  • Maintain flexibility to adapt to new requests, changes in job routines, and assignments from the Manager or other departments as required.

  • Take reasonable care to protect personal health and safety, as well as that of others, by practicing and promoting safe work habits, using personal protective equipment, and reporting unsafe acts or conditions promptly.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned.


Working Conditions



  • Regular exposure to cleaning agents, chemicals, and equipment (personal protective equipment is provided and must be used).

  • Work is physically demanding and requires regular lifting (up to 25–50 lbs), bending, reaching, carrying, standing, and walking for extended periods.

  • Travel between multiple sites is required.

  • Duties may occasionally change to meet organizational requirements.

  • Will be required to complete on-call shifts as needed.
