Job Description - Alternative Care Worker - Sandy Bay main office

Position Summary:


The incumbent will develop a strong working relationship with the foster home and the children placed. Under the supervision of the Alternative Care Supervisor the Alternative Care Worker will ensure services are delivered in accordance with Provincial Standards, Agency Policy and Procedures, and specific directives.



Some Duties include:



  • Ensure all services provided are in compliance with Provincial standards, regulations and the Child and Family Services Act of Manitoba, Bill C-92 An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families and reflect the values, traditions and customs of the community.

  • Recruits, screens, and assesses foster home applications.

  • Complete and provide satisfactory Home Study Assessments for prospective Foster Parents Applicants.

  • Assists with cultural training, communication, problem solving, and advocacy between the foster parents and the Agency.

  • Complete Annual Reviews for each licensed Foster Placement.

  • Complete Addendums to Foster Parent licenses on an as needed basis.

  • Maintains professional and respectful relationships with Foster Care Providers, Program Staff, Collaterals, and Service Users.

  • Ensuring fire safety and public health standards are maintained.

  • Maintain up to date files and documentation detail.

  • Provide guidance and direction on all cases, complete case management forms and place in case management binder.

  • Maintain updated case lists, CFSIS and hard copies as required.

  • Travelling will be required to complete job duties or attend training sessions.

  • Other duties shall be assigned as required.


 


Qualifications:



  • B.S.W., B.A., or Child & Family Services Diploma and/or equivalent combination of education and training/experience in a related field of service.

  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in child and family services and/or a related field of study.

  • Knowledge of Acts and Legislation, that governs the alternative care department for Sandy Bay Child and Family Services Inc.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, time management, and organizational skills.

  • Must have a valid Manitoba Drivers License, access to a vehicle and willingness to travel.

  • Must pass Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, and Child Abuse Registry Check. Will provide a current drivers abstract.

  • Ability to speak and/or understand the Anishinaabe language would be an asset.

  • Knowledge and respect of Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation’s traditional culture and traditional philosophy.



Preference will be given to Canadian Citizens, First Nations, Métis, or Inuit candidates meeting the position requirements. All indigenous applicants are asked to self-declare within their cover letter.
