Job Description - Analyst - Data & Quantitative Research Lead

Job Summary:


The Data Analyst & Quantitative Research Lead is responsible for supporting Northern physicians, SLFNHA care providers, or other health care providers in their research planning, data analysis plan, retrieving and cleaning data, analysis and interpretation of data and knowledge translation (community-facing reports, manuscripts). The ideal candidate for this role can: leverage their professional expertise in health or social services research, analyze with precision, communicate effectively, organize with attention to detail, adapt to change, has great understanding of research design and principles of epidemiology, excel in technical proficiency with data analysis tools, and can translate data into actionable communications.


 


The Data Analyst focuses on translating research ideas into rigorous research questions and data analysis plans. They collaborate with our research assistant, research manager, and other SLFNHA staff supporting research to align data processes and conduct community needs assessments, while also ensuring accountability through effective reporting in partnership with the research manager.


 


Accountability: 


The Analyst -  Data & Quantitative Research Lead is directly accountable to the Anishininiiw Nanandowi’kikendamowin (Research) Program Manager and the SLLEG Research Lead on behalf of the SLLEG Executive.


 


Qualifications:



  • Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment).

  • Knowledgeable of First Nations’ people, history, culture, health priorities, and social issues.

  • A university degree in a related discipline (Statistics, Health or Social Sciences, Public Health/Epidemiology, or Information Management) or equivalent education and experience.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in a health or social services research environment or a related field, specifically working in planning and/or data management.

  • Project Management certificate or courses would be an asset.

  • Knowledge Translation and Mobilization certificate an asset.

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities is required.

  • Demonstrated expertise in data quality and clinical information management best practices.

  • Experience with change management related to the implementation of new data management software (CRMs, EMRs), including data transfer and database configuration.

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, the principles of data Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession (OCAP®)

  • Strong applied knowledge of one or more EMR systems would be an asset, including entering and extracting data.

  • Proficient computer literacy, including the use of Microsoft products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Power BI); intermediate-level knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required.

  • Experience working with Statistical Analysis packages (SSRS, SPSS, SSIS, SSAS, or Crystal Reports) is required.

  • Understanding of SLFNHA’s regional health care systems and collaborative approaches to health care delivery is an asset.

  • Understanding of multi-agency funded environments and the complexity of the reporting requirements therein.

  • Excellent analytical skills.

  • Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation skills

  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Ability to function effectively during periods of rapid change and transition.

  • Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects of the Sioux Lookout region is an asset.

  • Ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis



     


    Roles and Responsibilities



    1. Act as a subject matter expert in quantitative research design, development of data analysis plans, leading the analysis of data and critical thinking informed by literature.

    2. Together with the research manager, listen to incoming research ideas and proposals and develop a strategy for actioning the idea.

    3. Establish and implement data standardization and input protocols, ensuring accurate data entry by creating systems and protocols.

    4. Collaborate with the Project Manager to implement change management strategies focused on data and statistical improvement measures (e.g. RedCAP for research data storage).

    5. Verify data accuracy by cross-referencing extracted data against source documentation, and develop standard operating procedures for data cleaning.

    6. Investigate root causes of data quality issues and lead initiatives to ensure high-quality data availability.

    7. Develop data analysis plans as well as statistical analysis plans that will answer the research objectives.

    8. Coordinate with the SLFNHA Finance Department to provide timely data for funder reports and ensure accountability in funding agreements with external partners.

    9. Extract, analyze, and prepare data required for funders, stakeholders, and organizational decision-making.

    10. Collaborate with the Research team, other SLFNHA departments, and external organizations to ensure seamless data integration and communication.

    11. Generate and interpret reports and statistics to support decision-making, providing actionable insights to the Research Manager, Northern Physicians, SLLEG Board, and other managers.

    12. Work with decision support specialists to harmonize data and conduct community-based needs assessments.

    13. Handle sensitive and confidential information in strict confidence, adhering to office policies and regulations such as PIPEDA/PHIPA and OCAP.

    14. Assist other staff as required and perform additional duties as assigned.
