Job Description
- Teachingand following a daily routine
- Organizesand provides developmentally appropriate early childhoodeducation programs; plans and implements curriculum andeducation for children ranging in age from six weeks to twelveyears old
- Adaptingthe program to suit the needs of the individual child orgroup
- Providesactivities and opportunities that encourage curiosity,exploration, and problem solving appropriate to thedevelopmental levels and learning styles ofchildren
- Consistentlyplanning innovative ways of keeping children activelyengaged
- Writesand compiles individual assessments of each child'sdevelopment; completes daily inventories, child attendance, andrelated reports
- Ensuringthe social and emotional growth of the child
- Maylead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns,and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate inthe recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the areaof operation
- Adheringto the guidelines of the Education Department andState
- Monitoringand supervising the children constantly
- Discussthe program’s daily events with family members at drop-offand pick-up times
- Assistingthe childcare teacher in maintaining a safe and positiveenvironment
- Carryout a daily schedule that incorporates child-directedactivity, care routines and transitions times
- Preparingand serving meals and snacks
- Engageeach child individually each day
- Assistingwith sand, water, or playground activities
- Attendto children’s physical needs for diapering, toileting,eating and sleeping
- Alertingthe childcare teacher to emergencies
Requirements
- Bachelor’sdegree in early child development
- Atleast 3 years of experience directly related to the dutiesand responsibilities specified
- Certificatein early childhood education and care (CHC 30113), ifpertinent to the state
- Abilityto exercise patience when interacting withchildren
- Stronginterpersonal and communication skills and the ability towork effectively with a wide range of constituencies in adiverse community
- Acaring and approachable nature
- Knowledgeof early childhood education programs andtechniques
- Mustmeet state-specific guidelines
- Abilityto work during the evening, and after-hours, asneeded
- Knowledgeof applicable safety procedures
- Abilityto provide activities for children that encourage healthygrowth
