Aquaculture Technician 2024

Icy Waters Ltd. is a dynamic, Canadian aquaculture company dedicated to the sustainability, development, growth, processing, and sale of premium Arctic Charr and “Yukon Gold” Arctic Charr ova. Icy Waters is a world leader in Arctic Char aquaculture and produces award winning Arctic Char. The Canadian Company believes that staff be directly involved in production from “egg to plate”. The successful candidate will assist with the implementation of scientific and technical activities in the Hatchery, Tank Farm and Processing Plant. Icy Waters Ltd. is in Whitehorse, which is full of outdoor enthusiasts, who enjoy a relaxed way of life, in a small but cultured city!

Responsibilities:

• Assist with spawning and vaccination of fish


• Incubation, picking and packaging of eggs


• Record keeping and recording data for research projects


• Daily husbandry chores of feeding and monitoring fish


• Water quality maintenance


• Harvesting fish for processing


• Processing fish, 1.5 days per week is spent in the processing plant


• Quality Control inspections to ensure all company standards are achieved


• Sorting and grading fish within appropriate size categories


• Maintaining a clean work area


• Participation in the after hours, on-call, alarm rotation

Qualifications:

• PASSION FOR FISH


• Background in aquaculture or marine biology


• Work effectively in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under time constraints


• Physically fit to stand, lift, carry 50 lbs., and to do repetitive work in cold, wet environment, both indoors and outdoors


• Good communication and interpersonal skills


• Self-starter and able to work independently


• Ability to work efficiently at repetitive tasks


• Attention to detail and cleanliness


• Computer experience – Excel, email, data entry


• Valid Driver’s license


• A criminal record check must be provided before the first day of work and a further security check may be required.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $40,000 per year + weekly bonus program to earn up to another $15,000 / year
