The aQuatonomous Design Team designs, builds, and tests Autonomous Surface Vehicles (ASVs) at the cutting edge of robotics and sustainability. We’re proud to be Queen’s University’s fastest-growing interdisciplinary design team, and last year we became semi-finalists at RoboNation’s RoboBoat Competition in our very first year of operation! 🌍⚡

This year, our crew is setting sail again refining our flagship ASV, the Nautical Disaster, and preparing for competition. We’re looking for general members across all subteams no experience required, just passion and curiosity. Whether you’re into circuits, coding, hulls, business, or water research, there’s a place for you on board. 🌊💡

⚡ Subteams You Can Join

🔌 Electrical

• Build custom PCBs, telemetry & power systems, and integrate sensors.

• Work on efficient energy management and communication systems.

• Great for anyone who wants hands-on hardware + circuit design experience!

🤖 Autonomy

• Develop algorithms for navigation, mapping, and path planning.

• Work with computer vision, LiDAR, GPS, and AI for real-world robotics.

• Perfect for those curious about AI, outdoor robotics, and autonomous vehicles.

🛠️ Mechanical

• Design and manufacture a modular, water-tight hull and payload.

• Build and refine our multi-thruster propulsion system.

• Best suited for anyone who loves CAD, prototyping, and testing.

🌐 Systems Integration

• Connect all subsystems (electrical, autonomy, mechanical) into one ASV.

• Develop full-boat simulations to test in virtual environments before launch.

• Awesome for big-picture thinkers who enjoy debugging and problem-solving.

💧 Eco & Water Research

• Collaborate with research labs and conduct field studies on Lake Ontario.

• Explore how robotics can monitor and protect water ecosystems.

• Amazing for those interested in sustainability, SDGs, and impact-driven work.

📈 Business & Outreach

• Build sponsorships, connect with industry partners, and grow our brand.

• Manage social media, events, and external communication.
