Job Description - Assistant Hydrometric Group Lead

The Role


We are looking for an innovative and accountable ASSISTANT HYDROMETRIC GROUP LEAD with a passion for delivering the right solution to serve each client’s unique needs. This role is based out of Calgary and consists of the Sr. Hydrometric Lead and two full-time hydrometric technicians. The group is also supported by additional field staff on an as-needed basis. As the Assistant group Lead you will work closely with the group lead to schedule field crews, conduct site trips, develop monitoring programs, respond to requests for proposals, and assist with the development of hydrometric summary reports. What You’ll Do



  • Work on interesting and diverse water resources and mine water projects

  • Help manage both internal and external KWL clients and projects

  • Field work including stream assessments, installing new hydrometric monitoring stations, and ensuring existing hydrometric stations are maintained and in good working order

  • Hydrometric field services including discharge measurements

  • Hydrometric data computations and quality assurance, including rating curve development, stage, and discharge timeseries development

  • Maintain our online hydrometric network by performing monthly reviews of the data

  • Write and edit client reports

  • Mentor and train junior staff


What You’ll Bring



  • A positive and motivated personality!

  • Technology Diploma in Water Resources, Environmental Technology, or similar

  • Minimum 3-5 years of hydrometric experience

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) and be able to work with team members in a multi-disciplinary environment

  • A desire to learn new skills and an eagerness to grow within your role

  • A valid driver’s license (in good standing) is mandatory

  • Must be physically able to conduct field visits commensurate with project work. This may include handling and operation of equipment, travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, and outdoor site visits in all weather conditions on uneven/varying ground terrain.

Wage Range


$82,000 – $90,000, wage dependent on years of experience
