FACULTY OF BUSINESS, ENVIRONMENT, AND TECHNOLOGY

NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for someone dedicated to finding ways forward to join the Faculty of Business, Environment and Technology as Associate Chair, Business.

We will accomplish this goal, in part, by continuing to deliver workforce-relevant education. Reporting to the Program Chair, the Associate Chair (AC) is expected to play a key role to support this goal.

The key role of AC, BADP is to support the Program Chair to provide academic leadership and oversight to promote and grow the Business Administration Diploma Program offered by NorQuest and provide leadership in the following three areas:

  • Learner Success
  • Coaching and Development of Academic Staff
  • Curriculum Update and Maintenance

The AC is primarily an instructor who will teach in the program as required (maximum 70%) and will have administrative responsibilities as outlined in the NorQuest College Faculty Association (NCFA) collective agreement and delegated by the Program Chair. The incumbent needs to possess demonstrated administration skills which will serve to assist faculty and provide learner supports for success.

Reporting to the Program Chair, the AC supports the Chair in promoting learner success and engagement, faculty development and support, and program quality assurance. Therefore, each Associate Chair takes on specific responsibilities that suit their program and skill set. This may include faculty onboarding, student experience, and/or curriculum guidance and support.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

Associate Chair duties are made up from a combination of duties chosen from the following list. 

Faculty Support and Development

  • Recruit and orientate faculty and staff.
  • Monitor faculty and staff development and provide thoughtful feedback on improving teaching in the classroom.
  • Consult with faculty in their assignment of educational activities and service work.
  • Promote professional development of faculty and staff through FED process.

Departmental and College Planning

  • Promote the benefits of and advocating for the needs of the program.
  • Participate in the development of operational and financial plans.

Student Success

  • Promote and support sound adult educational (andragogical) strategies.
  • Develop program admission criteria.
  • Monitor overall student academic performance.
  • Mediate instructor concerns as appropriate.
  • Resolve academic issues, such as student appeals, as appropriate.

Curriculum Maintenance and Development

  • Lead program reviews and accreditation requirements.
  • Ensure programming is relevant, current and sustainable.
  • Coordinate the development and delivery of courses and programs.
  • Monitor course evaluations.

Internal and External Liaison

  • Participate in timely and accurate communication with key stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of program advisory committees, as required.
  • Coordinate expertise representation for external committees and taskforces.

Educational Activities

  • Promote and participate in teaching excellence:
    • Facilitate learning
    • Advocate for learners
    • Use teaching and learning strategies
    • Evaluate and develop curriculum
    • Pursue applied research or professional scholarly activities
  • Special Projects as assigned

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • A Master Degree in Business is desired but an undergraduate degree and considerable experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum three years of experience in post-secondary environment, preferably in the following areas of business:
      • Accounting
      • Financial Planning and Selling of Financial products
      • Leadership and Management
      • Human Resources Management
      • Change Management, Sustainable Business Practices
  • Professional designations such as CGA or CMA are an asset.
  • Chairs of programs requiring external accreditation must have professional recognition in the program discipline.
  • Experience instructing in an adult education environment is required.
  • Previous academic activities should include but are not limited to:
    • Facilitate learning
    • Advocate for learners
    • Use teaching and learning strategies
    • Evaluate and develop curriculum
    • Pursue applied research or professional scholarly activities
    • Experience with post-secondary processes and procedures is desirable.

  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver course material that incorporates appropriate objectives, assessments and outcomes
  • Ability to apply sound student engagement techniques that are responsive to diverse learner needs
  • Working knowledge of technology applications including educational technologies
  • Demonstrated decision-making ability

SALARY: Chairs are paid based on the Faculty grid with a stipend to reflect the additional administrative and supervisory responsibilities. This amount is determined based on the amount, complexity, and scope of additional responsibilities.  The pay range is quite large, check out the Faculty Collective Agreement Appendix A to better understand how pay is determined.

We are hiring two positions for a three year term with an  anticipated start date of position is July 1, 2024. A transition plan will be created for the successful candidates to ease into the position and completing the current teaching responsibilities if applicable.
