Position Status: Full Time (40 hours/week), Permanent
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is seeking a full time Associate Director for the kisîhtoskâtonaw Métis Arts Collective. Reporting to the Director of Intergovernmental Relations of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Arts Collective Team and providing support to their corresponding portfolios. The Associate Director – Métis Arts Collective will have the ability to produce professional documents and reports, possess strong technical skills, a background in the arts, and have an understanding Métis history of issues facing Métis people.
Key Responsibilities
Support the mandate of the Arts Collective to uplift, advocate for, and support Métis artists and to propel Métis art into the mainstream arts ecosystem.
Oversee the planning, development, and implementation of Métis Arts Collective projects and initiatives.
Support the daily operations of the Métis Arts Collective with event and workshop planning, coordination, and facilitation.
Support the Arts Collective team in retail sales and inventory management.
Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including service providers, internal Otipemisiwak Métis Government departments, affiliates, and community.
Collaborate with other departments and administrative staff of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government to organize events and opportunities through the Métis Arts Collective and facilitate artistic offerings at events.
Manage and provide direction to the Arts Collective team, ensuring tasks are completed according to projected timelines and adhere to best practices and values of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government.
Mentor team members through feedback, coaching, and formal evaluations, and provide effective leadership to the team.
Perform supervisory duties, including hiring and training staff, building staff capacity, assigning job duties, and conducting performance reviews.
Manage operational and fiscal activities, including developing and implementing work plans and forecasting within a designated budget.
Draft funding applications for relevant programs, secure funding for initiatives and projects, and manage obligations under funding agreements and contracts.
Maintain a high level of political awareness, cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and confidentiality in interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
Other duties as required or assigned.

Demonstrated time management and organization skills with the ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
Ability to identify issues and implement creative and strategic solutions to overcome problems.
Exceptional verbal and listening skills, and superior written communication skills, with an ability to produce professional documents, reports, and presentations.
Excellent attention to detail.
Flexible and adaptable to work in a diverse and fast paced environment.
Ability to work under pressure and handle tense and stressful situations.
Political and cultural sensitivity and a strong sense of ethics, with the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions.
Familiarity with data management is an asset.
Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture is an asset.
Knowledge of and a passion for the arts community in Edmonton and Alberta is an asset.
Qualifications
Post-secondary degree in Arts, Arts Administration, Fine Arts, Theatre Arts, Music, or related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience may be considered.
Minimum of three years of leadership experience, including leading a team of direct reports.
Experience with budget construction and management is an asset.
Experience or knowledge of grant proposal writing is an asset.
Experience working in a retail environment or commercial art gallery is an asset.
Experience with event planning and/or workshops is an asset.
Experience working in an Indigenous and/or non-profit setting is an asset.
Other Requirements
Ability to work regular office hours of Monday to Friday 8:30 am-4:30 pm, as well as a flexible schedule of days, evenings, and weekends.
Travel within Alberta and out-of-province is a requirement.
Reliable transportation and valid class 5 drivers’ license.
