CBC/Radio-Canada is seeking an Associate Producer/Technician primarily assigned to the show Ottawa Morning, produced at the Ottawa Production Centre. Shifts are mainly Monday to Friday from 04:30 to 12:45. Candidates may be called upon to work on other English and French programs, on various shifts as needed, including weekends.


Your role


Under the direction of one or more producers, you will contribute to the production, direction, and post-production of a program or program segment by performing programming functions and technical operations. The work is subject to CBC/Radio-Canada's journalistic and programming policies, standards, and practices, but allows for initiative, creativity, and judgment. The incumbent is often called upon to coordinate the work of others.


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Propose content ideas for the program; assist in developing program objectives.
  • Participate in the development of program content, including writing texts, conducting research, or editing. Prepare scripts; ensure adherence to the program's style and format.
  • Ensure that the necessary equipment, facilities, sources, and personnel are ready to meet service and program requirements.
  • Set up and operate the equipment required to meet programming and production objectives.
  • Edit and mix programs or program segments. Ensure the optimal sound quality of mixes, including sound effects created to achieve program and production objectives.
  • Participate in the evaluation of all aspects of the production.

As needed, perform the following tasks:

  • Produce programming elements.
  • Direct a program, live or pre-formatted, in studio or on location.
  • Present material on air.
  • Organize the participation of interviewees, creative collaborators, and other program participants; prepare contextualizations, introductions, and interview questions, conduct or have conducted necessary research, and ensure the preparation of hosts.
  • Help maintain a level of communication or rapport with the audience that is both achievable and appropriate to the style and nature of the program.
  • Select and play musical pieces, as well as sound effects or news bulletin excerpts.
  • Edit, encode, digitize, and package digital audio and images for a website using appropriate technologies.

This role requires full-time on-site presence.


Requirements:

  • The job requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from University and three (3) years of practical and relevant experience or graduation from Community College and five (5) years of practical and relevant experience.
  • Bilingualism (English/French).
  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a team.
  • Resourceful and proactive.
  • Comfort with computer tools.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of Dalet, iNews and Avid production tools.
  • Knowledge of the Lawo production environment.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
