ASUS Camps Counsellor (French)

Employed Position (ASUS Camps Counsellor: French)

ASUS Camps Counsellors must be a current Queen’s University student at the time of camp (July/August 2025), in good academic standing, and pay the Arts and Science Undergraduate Membership Fee at the time of their application.

The confirmation of successful applicants pends the submission of a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) that includes a Pardoned Sex Offender Database Check (PSOD) that is issued a maximum of three months before their start date. Staff must also hold a valid Standard First Aid & CPR C certification by the first day of in-person camp. Staff are required to have skills that would allow them to safely look after children while providing educational programming throughout the day.

Applications will remain open until a competitive applicant pool has been established.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Enthusiastically working with a group of co-counsellors in leading their group of campers (number subject to change depending on the week’s enrolment) through camp programming and camp-wide activities. This programming may include outdoor/indoor activities, games, songs, crafts, and any other programming specific to the week's themes.
• Ensuring the safety of their campers through constant supervision, providing individualized support for campers’ needs, and attending to any first-aid needs of the campers and fellow staff.
• Occasionally teaching and presenting weekly programs to their campers. The counsellors are responsible for familiarizing themselves with the programming of the week and are responsible for understanding how to effectively present the material in an accessible and engaging manner.
• Maintaining the safety of the camp area – this may include assisting with the clean-up of the area before and after camp or notifying the Directors when a room used for camp needs maintenance or becomes unsuitable for use by children.
• Assisting with before camp care and after camp care alongside fellow counsellors in a rotating schedule. Specifically, counsellors will be expected to ensure the safety of all campers, interact with parents positively and professionally to sign in/sign out campers, run activities, etc.
• Working closely with the Directors to fill in any tasks or gaps that occur daily i.e. supervising field trips, doing managerial tasks.

Time Commitment and Remuneration

Rate for New Counsellors - $18/hour

Rate for Returning Counsellors - $18.40/hour
