Job Description - Athabasca Patient Watch

While conducting a Patient Watch you would be responsible for monitoring the safety, security, and confidentiality of patients who present a danger to themselves, or others. This position requires an individual who can provide superior customer service and professionalism while carrying out the functions of the job. This job requires applicants to be able to work both day and overnight shifts. This position may require long periods of sitting.    

We are looking for individuals in the Whitecourt area who are willing to work on-demand and pick up shifts on short notice. Shifts may come available in Whitecourt and surrounding rural areas within a 500 km radius. A valid class 5 drivers license and a willingness to travel to other hospital locations in your own vehicle is required. We will reimburse mileage at company rates. 

Candidates must have open availability including a willingness to work weekends and overnight shifts.  

Starting wage for this role is $22.44/hour.  

Successful applicants will need to attend a Healthcare Security Training course provided through Paladin Security. First Aid certification is also required, those successful applicants who do not currently possess this certification will have the training provided through Paladin Security. 
 

Essential Job Functions: 
• Monitor the patient’s overall safety and report any changes to security and/or hospital staff  
• Ensure the safety of all stakeholders, including patients, clinical staff and visitors with de-escalation techniques 
• Log and report all incidents reported by hospital staff, physicians, patients or visitors and maintain a detailed log of all patient interactions 
• Utilize two-way radio and computer applications for communicating site activities 
• Communicate in a truthful and receptive manner under all circumstances 
• Must stay alert at all times 
• Ability to make immediate decisions, while maintaining composure in emergency response situations with minimal supervision 
• Develop thorough site knowledge, and maintain professional relationships with sites and hospital staff 
• Handle private and confidential information with a high amount of discretion  
• Monitor and screen visitors and clients in a professional manner 
 

Education and Experience: 
• Must have a Clean Criminal Record 
• Must be 18 years old and meet all other minimum requirements for a security license in the Province. 
• Basic Security Training, First Aid, and/or CPI training would be considered an asset. However, a security licence is not required for this role.

• Authorized to legally work in Canada

 

Skills: 
• Demonstrated superior customer service skills; Ability to interact confidently and proactively with the general public presenting a professional image. 
• Successfully conduct security patrols up to 20km without direct supervision. 
• Ability to remain calm and effectively perform in emergency situations. 
• Write comprehensive reports and maintain proper records using effective communication skills. 
• Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel. 
• Have basic knowledge of security procedures, handling violent behaviours, and non-defensive communication. 
• Follow and enforce safety codes, regulations, and procedures. 
• Handle private and confidential information with a high amount of discretion. 
• Adhere to our Code of Ethics in performing job requirements. 
• Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.

• Must live within 30 minutes of Athabasca Alberta

• Must have a class 5 driver's license

• Must be able to provide a criminal record check

• Must be able to work 3 consecutive days in a row

• Must be able to work days and nights

• Must be able to work 12 hour shifts
