Location: Potlotek First Nation

Position Summary



Potlotek First Nation is seeking a proactive, experienced Band Manager to provide leadership and operational oversight for all departments, directly supporting Chief and Council. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that the administration functions smoothly, in alignment with Potlotek’s community values, cultural foundations, policies, and long-term strategic goals.


With over 800 members living on and off reserve, Potlotek is experiencing substantial growth. The Band Manager will work closely with the Chief and Council to enhance governance, strengthen service delivery, and promote collaboration across all departments.



Key Responsibilities:



Leadership & Administration



  • Lead the day-to-day operations of Potlotek First Nation’s administration, ensuring effective coordination across departments.

  • Attend and participate in all Chief and Council meetings, providing comprehensive updates and accurate documentation to support informed decision-making.

  • Promote a culture of teamwork, trust, and accountability among Directors, Managers, and staff.

  • Foster ongoing communication between departments along with the Chief Technical Officer, through regular directors' meetings and collaborative initiatives.

  • Ensure that all programs and services operate in compliance with internal policies, administrative standards, and applicable laws and regulations.


Financial Oversight & Strategic Planning



  • Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Technical Officer on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.

  • Monitor financial and operational performance to ensure responsible and sustainable community development.

  • Support the execution of short- and long-term strategic priorities set by Chief and Council.


Community & Staff Engagement



  • Maintain strong relationships with staff, community members, committees, funding agencies, and external partners.

  • Promote cultural awareness and inclusiveness within the workplace.

  • Coordinate the implementation of staff appreciation efforts, including monthly celebrations and an annual recognition event for staff and volunteers.

  • Ensure annual performance evaluations are completed in collaboration with Human Resources.


Governance & Compliance



  • Ensure staff awareness and adherence to Potlotek’s governance policies, by-laws, administrative procedures, and financial regulations.

  • Stay current with applicable federal and provincial legislation, including the Indian Act, Treaty Rights, Occupational Health and Safety regulations, and Indigenous governance frameworks.

  • Follow up professionally and promptly on Band Council Resolutions (BCRs), motions, and directives.


Qualifications



Education



  • Degree in Business Management, Public Administration, or a related field

  • OR an equivalent combination of education and substantial experience in a leadership or management role, preferably within a First Nation or Indigenous organization.


Experience & Skills



  • Proven leadership and management skills in a complex organizational setting

  • Experience overseeing diverse teams, budgets, and community programs

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines

  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including experience with reports, policy writing, and community correspondence

  • Skilled in conflict resolution, negotiation, and fostering a culturally respectful work environment

  • Intermediate to advanced computer literacy, especially with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Knowledge of Indigenous governance, the Indian Act, and community-based administration practices is considered a strong asset

  • Valid Driver’s License and/or access to reliable transportation
