Department: 4200BA
Reports To: Plant Manager
Location: Uxbridge, Ontario



Position Summary



Batcher is responsible for safely and efficiently preparing ingredients for production, packaging finished products, and supporting daily manufacturing operations while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, product quality, and workplace safety.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring ingredients are accurately weighed and staged for production and that finished products are packaged according to customer specifications and company quality standards.



Batching Responsibilities




  • Accurately weigh and measure raw materials according to production formulas and batch sheets.

  • Verify ingredient names, lot numbers, quantities, and expiry dates before use.

  • Stage and prepare ingredients for the Mixing Department in accordance with production schedules.

  • Maintain complete ingredient traceability throughout the batching process.

  • Ensure ingredients are properly identified and labeled before being transferred to production.

  • Record batch information accurately and completely.

  • Follow recipe specifications exactly to ensure ingredient accuracy.

  • Replenish raw materials as required.

  • Rotate inventory using FIFO (First In, First Out) practices.

  • Report inventory shortages, damaged materials, or ingredient discrepancies immediately.

  • Maintain clean and organized batching areas.

  • Safely transport ingredients using pallet jacks or other approved material handling equipment.



General Production Responsibilities




  • Read and interpret production schedules and work orders.

  • Meet daily production targets while maintaining quality standards.

  • Perform equipment setup and changeovers for packaging lines.

  • Complete cleaning and sanitation of batching and packaging equipment.

  • Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary work areas at all times.

  • Assist with shipping and receiving activities when required.

  • Assist with inventory counts and stock organization.

  • Support other production departments during periods of increased workload.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Food Safety & Quality Responsibilities




  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

  • Comply with HACCP, SQF, allergen control, sanitation, and food safety programs.

  • Maintain complete ingredient and finished product traceability.

  • Complete all production, quality, and food safety documentation accurately.

  • Immediately report food safety, quality, or contamination concerns.

  • Ensure all products meet Hela Spice Canada quality standards before release.

  • Follow all metal detection procedures and report deviations immediately.



Health & Safety Responsibilities




  • Follow all company Health & Safety policies and procedures.

  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Safely operate pallet jacks and other approved material handling equipment.

  • Report unsafe conditions, hazards, incidents, and near misses immediately.

  • Practice proper lifting techniques and safe material handling.

  • Participate in all required safety training.



Qualifications




  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Previous manufacturing or food production experience is considered an asset.

  • Previous batching, ingredient weighing, or packaging experience is considered an asset.

  • Experience in a food manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Experience using warehouse management systems is considered an asset.

  • Forklift certification is considered an asset.

  • Strong mathematical skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to accurately weigh ingredients and complete production documentation.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Reliable, dependable, and committed to quality and food safety.



Physical Requirements




  • Ability to frequently lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs).

  • Ability to stand and walk for the duration of the shift.

  • Ability to bend, twist, kneel, reach, and lift throughout the workday.

  • Ability to push and pull carts, pallets, and ingredient containers.

  • Comfortable working in a food manufacturing environment with spices, powders, dust, and varying temperatures.

  • Ability to wear required PPE throughout the shift.



Working Conditions




  • Fast-paced food manufacturing environment.

  • Exposure to spices, seasonings, powders, allergens, and varying temperatures.

  • Overtime may be required based on production demands.

  • Strict adherence to food safety, quality, and sanitation procedures is required.
