Connections for Families Society is a non-profit founded in 1990 to support parents with cognitive disabilities be successful parents and create safe and nurturing homes. For over 34 years, Connections has supported adults with a developmental disability, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome or brain injury to thrive and feel valued as individuals and as parents. Connections supports over 130 families each year in Calgary and area, offering lifelong support including hands-on parenting skills education, financial coaching, counselling, and group programming.

Why join the Board? As a board member, you will join a group of passionate and committed members to offer expertise and strategic direction in advancing Connections’ mandate. As a ‘small but mighty’ organization, there is opportunity to provide guidance and expertise that will ensure Connections continues to deliver quality services to families. Connections’ engaged Board of Directors support the Executive Director and team to be strategic, effective, and fiscally sound, offering a rewarding board experience.

What is the commitment? This role will require a minimum two-year commitment, as well as approximately 6-8 hours per month. This includes 4-6 board meetings per year and opportunities to focus in on your area of expertise through one or more working committees.

Who are we looking for? Ideal candidates include individuals with expertise in accounting/finance, legal, social service sector, and fundraising, among others.
