Building Operator

As a Building Operator, you will support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of Irving Oil’s corporate buildings systems and facilities. Your goal will be to maintain mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and timely response to issues. Your success will be demonstrated by consistent system performance, effective resolution of alarms and service requests, and a well-maintained, compliant facility.

Your Responsibilities:

• Perform daily walkthroughs and inspections of mechanical and electrical rooms
• Monitor BAS systems and respond to alarms or operational irregularities
• Maintain HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire safety, and lighting systems
• Complete water treatment testing and adjust chemical systems as required
• Conduct preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and systems
• Respond to occupant requests including temperature, lighting, and comfort concerns
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of mechanical and electrical spaces
• Coordinate vendors, contractors, and support regulatory inspections
• Participate in emergency responses, fire drills, and after-hours calls
• Execute monthly generator testing and maintain emergency readiness

Your Skills:  

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
• Familiarity with BAS (Building Automation System) and lighting control systems
• Ability to read blueprints and understand system flows
• Effective time management and prioritization skills
• Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities
• Sound judgement and decision-making under pressure
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools

Your Experience:

• Fourth Class Power Engineering certification or higher
• Experience in building operations, maintenance, or facilities management
• Hands-on experience with preventative maintenance and minor repairs
• Experience supporting inspections and working with external vendors
• Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance requirements
