Job Description - Bus Aide

Employment Opportunity 


The Eskasoni School Board is seeking to hire a Bus Aide to support students with diverse needs in transportation to and from school.



Job Title: Bus Aide


Reporting to: Bus Lead 


Job type: Full-time Term until June 30, 2026


Hours: Routes typically require 1-2 hours in the morning, lunchtime, and after school.


Anticipated Start Date:  Mid February



Job Summary: 


The primary responsibility of a Bus Aide is to provide supervision and support on the bus during route times to ensure student safety. 



Responsibilities: 



  • Assist student passengers in safe boarding and exiting of the bus.

  • Assist with supervision and monitor student passenger conduct to ensure students are safe and comfortable. 

  • Ensure student passengers retain personal items when exiting the bus.

  • Ensure passengers remain safely seated while the bus is in motion.

  • Operate wheelchair lift, secure wheelchairs when needed.

  • Assist with safely loading, riding, and unloading procedures, particularly for those passengers with diverse needs. 

  • Report any problems/issues to the appropriate supervisor.

  • Effectively manage student behaviour.

  • Communicate concerns with the bus driver as they arise.

  • Maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.



Requirements: 


Experience supporting clients with diverse needs an asset.


Early morning availability.


Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position. 


Patience and adaptability in supporting positive passenger behaviour. 


Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and the community.  


First Aid and WHMIS required or willingness to obtain upon hire. 


Knowledge of basic computer software (ie: email, Bamboohr) 


Satisfactory criminal record with vulnerable sector check and child abuse registry check. 



Salary: $23,572.00



Closing Date: February 17, 2026, at 3:00 PM


Preference will be given to Indigenous people in accordance with the Aboriginal Employment Preferences Policy of the Canadian Human Rights Commission.


Successful applicant will be will be required to provide a criminal records check/vulnerable sector check and a child abuse registry check prior to commencing employment.
