Clifton is seeking an experienced, strategic, and relationship-focused Business Development Professional based in British Columbia to lead major pursuit efforts and support continued growth across Western Canada. In this role, you will develop and execute client engagement strategies, identify and advance new opportunities, support proposal and pursuit development, and strengthen Clifton’s visibility and brand presence in BC, while collaborating with teams supporting growth throughout the region. The ideal candidate combines strong business development acumen with relationship management expertise, market insight, and a solid understanding of professional services in the engineering, construction, and mining sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Practice Directors, technical, engineering, and operations teams to understand services, align BD activities with capabilities, communicate value, and respond to client needs.
- Actively identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities through teaming, networking, industry events, market research, leads, partnerships, tenders, and RFP/RFQ tracking via platforms like Merx, APC, SaskTenders, and BC Bid.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and new clients to support client service culture, manage accounts, ensure satisfaction, and identify upsell/cross-sell opportunities.
- Prepare and execute business development and market strategies aligned with company objectives to enhance position in western Canada's engineering and construction markets, including proposal support and marketing.
- Lead sales efforts, including proposal development, and presentations.
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends, competitors, expansion areas, partnerships, teaming opportunities, and strategic alliances, and provide recommendations to leadership.
- Facilitate client debriefs, post-project evaluations, progress reports, opportunity forecasts, and internal communications on wins, pursuits, and updates.
- Lead the Business Development/Marketing Team by providing guidance, tracking performance, allocating resources, and reporting on key metrics such as pipeline health, win rates, and revenue contributions.
- Represent the firm and participate in conferences, trade shows, networking functions, and client-focused events in Canada.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (Engineering), Business, Marketing, or a related field.
- A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in business development, account management, or client engagement.
- Willingness and ability to travel to client sites, industry events, and other Clifton offices as required (20-30%).
- Strong knowledge of Western Canadian markets and industry networks with experience preparing or contributing to proposals and competitive submissions.
- A proactive approach to networking and a demonstrated ability to build and sustain strong professional relationships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- A professional engineering designation (e.g., P.Eng.) is preferred for senior-level roles.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities effectively.
- Proven track record of successfully closing deals and driving revenue growth in Western Canada.
- Experience leading or managing a small team within the business development or marketing functions.
- Strong understanding of the Canadian engineering sector, including regulations, market dynamics, and key players in Western Canada.
- Proficiency in CRM platforms, market analysis tools, and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Demonstrated strength in strategic planning, with examples of developing and implementing successful business development plans.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $160,000 annually, based upon a 40-hour work week. The posted base salary range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience, as noted in the job posting. Compensation is subject to variations based on factors such as education, experience, skillset, and location. Actual salary will reflect the successful candidate’s unique qualifications and experience.
