If you are looking for a Data & Analytics career in the investment management industry, BCI is looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer to join our growing Corporate Data & Operations department for a 12-month, temporary role. This is an exciting time to be a part of a centralized team delivering re-usable datasets, reporting, data science, and data governance. Come join us in either our Victoria or Vancouver office!
Reporting to the Manager, Data & Analytics Engineering, the Business Intelligence Engineer (BI Analyst) is responsible for conducting requirements gathering and business analysis, designing, developing, and delivering Business Intelligence (BI) solutions such as reports and dashboards. The BI Engineer works closely with internal team members, such as the Data Product Manager and Data Engineers, and collaborates with the business and technology teams.
This is a 12-month temporary role with potential for extension.
This is an on-site position that can be based in either our Vancouver or Victoria office.
Bachelor’s degree in Data, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
A minimum of 5 years of experience with responsibility for developing production business intelligence solutions such as reports and dashboards
Experience learning, conducting technical data analysis, and extracting and transforming data from complex data stores
Must be an expert with SQL for data querying
Must be an expert with Power BI
Must be proficient with designing complex data visualization solutions, whilst considering solution user experience
Knowledge of PowerApps and/or a background in software engineering is an asset
Knowledge of Python is an asset
Engages with stakeholders to understand business problems and opportunities that can be supported through data by conducting requirements gathering and analysis
Designs and proposes business intelligence solutions which solve business problems
Analyzes data sources and complex data stores and writes production grade, high performing SQL to extract data
Develops business intelligence solutions such as reports and dashboards, with a focus on user experience and design
Conducts quality assurance testing, to ensure solutions built are accurate, high functioning, performant, and meet client requirements
Provides training and support to end-users of business intelligence software and solutions
Presents products to internal and external stakeholders, reviews the work of other engineers, and provides feedback in an open, respectful, and constructive manner
Diagnoses and resolves incidents and provides responsive communication to stakeholders
Creates and maintains technical documentation and user guides for business intelligence solutions
Proactively identifies risks and issues and proposes solutions to remove barriers
Applies knowledge of DevOps practices including continuous deployment, continuous integration, test-driven development, and automated testing
Performs other related duties as required
Work from our downtown Victoria or Vancouver office.
The annualized base salary range for this Victoria or Vancouver-based role is CAD $84,000 to $100,000.
The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.
We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.
Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
