The Lethbridge Police Service is currently accepting applications for a non-permanent Caretaker. Our Caretaker position is a vital role that helps keep the Lethbridge Police Service running smoothly, safely and professionally every day.  If you are someone who takes pride in your work and wants to be part of a team that serves and protects the community, this job is for you!

As the Caretaker you will:


 



  • Maintain peak standards of cleanliness for a wide range of cleaning duties inside and outside Lethbridge Police Service buildings

  • Perform general cleaning and custodial tasks across assigned facilities and exterior areas

  • Move, assemble, and rearrange furniture as required for operational or event needs

  • Monitor and coordinate with external contractors working within LPS facilities

  • Carry out minor maintenance and repair work as required

  • Respond to facility-related requests in a timely and professional manner

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Facilities Coordinator

  • Perform cleaning and maintenance requests in the LPS Short-term holding facility as required by the Duty Staff Sergeant(s)



As the successful candidate, you will have:




  • A Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent; supplementary education and experience will also be considered 

  • Sound judgement and strong ability to work independently

  • Ability to plan and organize oneself in a self-directed environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Basic Computer Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively, understand verbal and written instructions

  • Must have knowledge of approved cleaning techniques, chemicals/products, machines and equipment


 


 


This non-permanent position falls under the protection of a collective agreement associated to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 70 contract. CUPE Local 70 represents employees who are employed in number of civic departments within the City of Lethbridge.


 


Wage:                   $32.43 per hour |2026 rate



Hours:                0 - 40 hours per week (days, evenings, weekends)


 


 


The successful candidate is required to consent to a police security clearance, which includes the voluntary completion and submission of a personal disclosure form (lifestyle questionnaire), criminal and police records check, reference checks and truth verification through polygraph examination.

STEPS OF HIRING PROCESS



  1. Application Review - All applications will be reviewed for relevant qualifications, education, experience, training, and skills.

  2. Interview, Personal Disclosure Form (PDF), and (for external applicants) Security Clearance Declaration - Selected applicants will be contacted to schedule a Behavioral Descriptive Interview. As part of this stage:



  • External applicants/non‑LPS employees will be required to complete a Personal Disclosure Form (PDF) and a Security Clearance Declaration.



  1. Police Fingerprinting Check - Completion of a satisfactory police fingerprinting check.

    • Applicable to external applicants/non‑LPS employees.



  2. Polygraph Examination Procedure - Successful applicants will be required to complete a Polygraph Examination Procedure.  Travel to Calgary to complete the Polygraph may be required.



  • Applicable to external applicants/non‑LPS employees.



  1. Security Clearance Check - A Security Clearance Check will be conducted.



  • Applicable to external applicants/non‑LPS employees.



  1. Reference Verification - A minimum of three professional references will be conducted

    • Applicable to external applicants/non‑LPS employees.



  2. Selection and Offer - Successful candidate(s) will be selected and offered the position.

  3. Fair and Uniform Process - All components of the selection process will be administered, scored, evaluated, and interpreted in a fair and uniform manner.

  4. Estimated Timeline - The hiring process may take approximately two to three months.

Facility Dogs


As a prospective employee it is important for you to know that LPS has two facility dogs in the workplace. LPS facility dogs are here to support our employees in positive, constructive manner. Further, LPS facility dogs support the emotional needs of victim’s and or witnesses through the Criminal Justice Process. A Facility Dog is directed by a professional with specialized expertise. Facility dogs frequent many areas of our building. In addition, we have police service dogs. Our police service dogs have minimal interaction with employees on site under the supervision of a trained handler.

Work Location


LPS employees are required to carry-out their assigned duties in-person at a Lethbridge Police Service facility.  Our Lethbridge Police Service Headquarters are located at 135 1st Avenue South Lethbridge, AB T1J 0A1**
