About GCS General Contracting Services


GCS Construction is a growing division of GCS Group, delivering construction services across Alberta. Our carpentry division handles residential and commercial fence and deck installations, with capacity for larger structural and framing scopes. We're expanding our leadership team and looking for a hands-on Carpentry Lead who can grow with the division.



Role Overview


The Carpentry Lead / Superintendent is a field-first leadership role. You'll work alongside your crew while managing daily operations, coordinating schedules, and driving quality and productivity on every job. You report directly to the Division Manager.



Key Responsibilities


Field Operations



  • Lead and coordinate carpentry crews on active job sites

  • Manage daily production, site safety, and crew accountability

  • Maintain quality standards across all scopes

  • Perform hands-on carpentry work alongside the crew as required


Estimating & Project Planning



  • Estimate labor, materials, and equipment for fence, deck, and framing scopes

  • Conduct site visits and contribute to bid preparation

  • Review project plans and identify scope, risks, and sequencing requirements


Material & Resource Management



  • Source, order, and manage delivery of materials for active projects

  • Track material usage and flag waste or discrepancies

  • Coordinate equipment needs with the operations team


Administration & Communication



  • Report job status, schedule updates, and crew needs to the Division Manager

  • Submit daily field reports and production data as required



Qualifications


Required



  • 5+ years of carpentry experience in residential or commercial construction

  • Demonstrated experience with fence and deck installation

  • Strong working knowledge of framing and structural carpentry

  • Proven ability to lead a crew and manage field operations

  • Ability to read blueprints, plans, and site drawings

  • Valid driver's license


Preferred



  • Journeyman Carpenter ticket or equivalent

  • Experience with estimating or material takeoffs

  • Familiarity with Alberta Building Code

  • Experience managing multiple crews or concurrent projects
