Casual Arena Operator (2026-17)

The Opportunity:

We are currently recruiting for two or three (2-3) casual Arena Operators for the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex (Arena). Reporting to and under the general direction of the Arena Supervisor or designate, this position is primarily based at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex. Key responsibilities include maintaining the ice surface, maintaining the overall cleanliness and appearance of the building, and performing preventative maintenance. Additional duties include assisting staff in securing the buildings in accordance with existing policies and procedures, ensuring walkways are clear of snow and debris and a variety of other tasks. This position works a variety of shifts and days, primarily evening and weekends.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• One (1) year related experience


• Arena Operator 1 certification


• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience


• Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Technical

• Knowledge and ability to perform minor repairs.


• Working knowledge of building cleaning and maintenance.


• Working knowledge of WHMIS.


• Be familiar with and work within safe work procedures.


• Ability to operate an ice machine.


• Physical ability to undertake the duties required.


• Ability to clean to established standards.

Interpersonal/Leadership

• Understanding of the demands, service standards and day-to-day operations of a recreation facility, specifically an arena.


• Ability to work a variety of shifts and days, including on-call.


• Ability to deal with the public in a friendly and effective manner.


• Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.


• Ability to work with minimal supervision.


• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers.


• Ability to recognize hazards/problems as they arise and report them to the Arena Supervisor/Manager of Recreation.


• Ability to represent the City and the Department in a professional, competent manner.

Salary Range: $23.63 - $29.54 per hour (dependent upon skills and experience).
