Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

The Community Ministry Worker coordinates the food services operations for The Salvation Army CFS in Cranbrook, BC, to aid in the mission delivery of the CFS programs that serve Cranbrook.

Accountabilities:

1) Program

• Responsible for monitoring of food and supplies and following guidelines for the security of food supplies and all cooking equipment.
•  Monitors food preparation to ensure all food and products are consistently prepared and serves according to recipes, portioning, cooking, arid serving standärds.
• Decides on the appropriate, creative, and efficient use of food, including donations so as to minimize wastage.
• Help with Food Recovery, by sorting food, and distributing it to gueSts.
• Aid in soup kitchen prep, cleaning and/or serving.
• Monitor phones, help sort guests for shower, locker, and laundry services.
• Take donations and connect donors with supervisors for tours.
•  Greeting and aiding donors and customers, offering information of our services to the public.
• Adapts work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services.
• Monitors preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment, recommends repairs and purchases as required.
• Makes connections with, and monitors the well-being of those in our building, in order to build transformation relationships with donors, guests, and the public.
• Monitors and offers program support to the CFS Supervisor, Cook, and volunteers.
• Receiving and sorting guest mail.
• Responsible for aiding in the keeping of inventory.
• General workplace cleaning (sweeping and mopping when needed).
• Helping the cook with all kitchen related tasks, food preparation, and cleaning.   
• Cleaning and sanitizing dishes used in the dining hall and kitchen.
• Making coffee for guests and donors.

2) Health and Safety

• Assist in ensuring client and volunteer safety by maintaining cleanliness and adherence to all health and safety standards.

• Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.

• Perform other position related duties.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:

• Internal relationships:

• Corps Officers, Ministry Director, supervisor, volunteers, staff.

• External relationships:

• Community, guests, clients, donors

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:

• This position reports directly to the CFS supervisor.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

• Assist with food materials management such as donations/product flow and distribution of same.

• May be trusted with gift cards and/or small cash purchases for kitchen and CFS materials.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• This is a Regular Full-Time position.

• Ability to lift/move on a regular basis up to 40 pounds.

• This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for long periods of time.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

• Requires completion of Secondary School Diploma; alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

• Safe Food Handling Certification preferred.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

• Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience.

Skills and Capabilities:

• Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement.

• Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible.

• Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check.

• Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation:

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
