This position will require an in-office presence of five (5) days a week.

Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to staff one full-time term position until March 31, 2027.

Information you must provide

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education
• Completion of post-secondary education with a specialization in mineral processing, chemistry, chemical engineering or materials science; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience related to the duties of the position.

Experience
• Experience handling hazardous chemicals,
• Experience working in a chemistry laboratory environment,
• Experience working with a computerised inventory system.

The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)

Knowledge
• Knowledge of chemical reactivity and incompatibility,
• Knowledge of hazardous waste regulations,
• Knowledge of the workplace hazardous materials information system (WHMIS),
• Knowledge of transportation of dangerous goods (TDG) regulations.

Abilities/Competencies
• Ability to communicate effectively orally
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing,
• Ability to work in a laboratory environment ,
• Ability to control and maintain a computerised inventory system.

Personal Suitability
• Effective interpersonal skills,
• Attention to details,
• Values and ethics.

Operational Requirements:
• This position is on-site 5 days per week (excluding holidays/leave). Working from home is not an option,
• Ability and willingness to perform manual labour,
• Mobility requirements for working in a chemistry laboratory environment,
• Ability to climb stairs and/or ladders,
• The candidate must be able to pass a respiratory fit test (which requires that they are clean shaven for the test).
