Job Description - Chemistry Teacher

Glenlyon Norfolk School (GNS) is an independent JK to Grade 12 International Baccalaureate and Round Square day and boarding school located on two campuses in Victoria, BC, Canada. At GNS, we provide an exceptional educational experience for students from age three to Grade 12, emphasizing robust academics, healthy social and emotional development, and inquiry-based, student-centred learning within a supportive community. Guided by the IB framework, we foster creativity, critical thinking, and a love of learning that prepares students for success in school and beyond.

We are currently seeking an exceptional educator to join our learning community, and we invite qualified candidates to apply for the following opportunity:

Chemistry Teacher

Senior School

Permanent, Full-time

Start: August 2026

Who We Are

GNS educators offer our students an internationally recognized 'gold standard’ of education.  As a highly collegial and collaborative team player, you will support the delivery of International Baccalaureate (IB) units that incorporate the BC curriculum.  Every student matters at GNS, which comes through in our dedication to supporting and inspiring students’ academic, co-curricular and personal growth through a high level of pastoral care. Our teachers are passionate educators who make an active contribution to our extensive co-curricular programs and participate fully in the culture of our independent school community.

What You’ll Bring

You will hold a valid BC teaching certificate and bring demonstrated experience teaching Science and Chemistry at the senior school level. IB training and experience teaching within the DP framework would be strong assets.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong foundation in inquiry-based and project-based learning, with the ability to design engaging, relevant, and intellectually challenging learning experiences that foster critical thinking, global mindedness, and student agency. You will bring creativity, curiosity, and innovation to your practice, alongside a reflective mindset and commitment to continuous professional growth. Additionally, you will bring a thoughtful and responsive approach to differentiating your instruction to support the diverse learning needs of all students, along with a genuine commitment to educating the whole student.

This position calls for a collaborative and forward-thinking educator who thrives in a dynamic learning environment, values interdisciplinary connections, and contributes positively to a culture of innovation, collegiality, and student-centered learning.

Our “Must-Haves”

The successful candidate will be a caring and compassionate educator who actively lives the GNS values of Truth, Courage, Caring, Individuality and Community. You will demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and integrity, be driven to succeed, and always put relationships first. You will have a natural ability to connect with others, be tactful and diplomatic in your approach, and ultimately help our students do their best through truth and courage.

Why work for GNS?

Working with GNS means joining a community that fosters a collaborative, caring, innovative and inclusive culture where learning and professional development are life-long passions. We are a committed group of people who love what we do and believe firmly in living our values.  We work hard but we also believe in having fun while we’re at it!

GNS offers a comprehensive total compensation package including immediate benefits with a health spending account and virtual health care, plus a generous RRSP program, tuition discount, free parking, mental health and wellness programs, fitness centre and much more. Compensation is determined by education and experience but ranges from $71,904 - $116,500.

We invite you to join our truly exceptional learning community and to experience a rewarding career in independent education. Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter indicating personal strengths and accomplishments by Wednesday, June 3, 2026. This position will remain open until filled.

It is the policy of Glenlyon Norfolk School to provide equal employment opportunities for all qualified persons. Additionally, we invite those who have demonstrated a commitment to upholding the values of equity, diversity and inclusion and who will assist us in expanding our capacity in this regard. To correct the conditions of disadvantage in employment in Canada, we encourage applications from members of groups that have been historically disadvantaged and marginalized. All qualified people are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority. While we thank all candidates for their interest, only those short-listed will be contacted.

Glenlyon Norfolk School will only use and retain personal information for the purpose for which it was collected. Any personal information provided will be maintained in confidence.
