Child and Family Support Program Coordinator

Reporting Relationship


The Child & Family Support Program Coordinator reports to the Early Years Learning Centre Supervisor; and works in collaboration with the Resource Centre Program Coordinator.


 


Position Summary


To promote and enhance the control of program design, delivery and accessibility of culturally relevant programs and services, including Anishinabemowin for the children and families within the community and at the M’Chigeeng First Nation Early Years Learning Centre; and to maintain good community relations to facilitate the Centre’s mission, philosophy, goals and objectives.


 


Essential Functions



  • Adhere to MFN Personnel Policy including its Employee Code of Ethics & Confidentiality; and the College of Early Childhood Educators Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of quality programs for children; ensuring all age groups (0-6 years) have equal access to program participation

  • Responsible for the daily operations of the Resource Centre/Toy Lending Library

  • Support early learning programming by developing specific programs based on our curriculum of: How Does Learning Happen? 

  • The Resource Centre will build upon and strengthen responsive adult to child relationships, child exploration, play and inquiry 

  • Ensure high-quality early learning programs for children, parents and caregivers including planning and implementing playroom activities and parental workshops

  • Establish and maintain positive liaison, with dignity and respect, for children, parents, caregivers, community and staff

  • Maintain improvements aiming for healthy childhood development, parent and family supports, and support parents/caregivers to pursue employment & training opportunities

  • Engage with parents and caregivers on discussions and decisions about child development, parenting and nutrition; pre- and post-natal support programs; and targeted outreach activities

  • Maintain a safe, clean and healthy environment for children, parents, caregivers, visitors

  • Act as a liaison with the community, schools, social service agencies, support groups for parents and any other services deemed appropriate

  • Plan, assist and present in public relations events sponsored by the Centre; work closely with all other involved staff

  • Initiate programs and/or services to be provided by the Family Support Program (i.e., parenting skills workshops, developmental ages/stages, importance of prevention/intervention)

  • Ensure children have access to play and inquiry-based learning opportunities and they experience positive developmental, health and well-being

  • Mobile services, “pop ups” in and around community; to meet the needs of the families who require it; provide home services to families without access to transportation, etc.

  • Coordinate and provide transportation for community and families for programs and services accessibility 

  • Network with other Family Support Programs within the geographical area (i.e., Wikwemikong, Mindemoya, Espanola, etc.)

  • Develop and maintain liaison with professional organizations


 


Administration & Reporting



  • Prepare and implement annual workplans with timelines, goals, objectives and outcomes; including required professional development

  • Increase operational hours to include different times and days of the week based on parent, family, community and caregiver needs. (Including rotating Saturdays & Sundays programming) Increasing evening hours to accommodate working parents/families

  • Collect all statistical information related to programs and services for reporting purposes

  • Prepare quarterly reports for the Ministry of Education as required

  • Issue monthly calendars with program activities, events & times, hours of operation, etc. and publicize through appropriate social-media and community newsletters

  • Develop and deliver to culturally appropriate programming, parent workshops and seminars

  • Overhaul existing inventory to modernize equipment, supplies and resources to reflect our mandate of: How Does Learning Happen (HDLH) 

  • Ensure all toys, equipment and resources are catalogued, maintained and inventoried

  • Research, develop and utilize program software to maintain resource inventory

  • Attend relevant meetings, conferences and training to maintain continuous professional learning

  • Provide ongoing evaluation of programs and services

  • Maintain the Child & Family Support Program and Toy Lending Library Procedural Manuals

  • Coordinate fundraising activities as required

  • Coordinate minor maintenance and repairs to program equipment, inventory and physical surroundings as needed


 


Staff Relations



  • Maintain good working relationships amongst all staff, students and volunteers

  • Provide leadership and support to new staff

  • Plan and conduct orientation for new staff, student placements, volunteers and parents

  • Provide orientation, supervision and evaluation for student placements and volunteers

  • Attend all staff meetings and any other community-related events or groups

  • Assume an equal share of joint housekeeping duties


 


Qualifications & Requirements



  • ECE Diploma and RECE professional designation is required or a Human Services related field Diploma, for annual review by Ministry of Education

  • Two to three (2-3) years of direct work-related experience

  • Has working knowledge and understands Early Years Learning rules & guidelines

  • Has excellent rapport and enjoys working with children, parents and families

  • Knowledge of child care programs and/or services to appropriately respond to public requests

  • Ability to take initiative, self-starter, work with minimal supervision and is a team player

  • Demonstrated proficiency of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office)

  • Must have working knowledge of office procedures and equipment

  • Ability to collaborate and integrate programs & services with community and external partners

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and weekends

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills and ability to multi-task

  • Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and public relations

  • Ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy and professionalism 

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times while working with sensitive information

  • Is knowledgeable, sensitive and respectful of Anishinabek cultural values, history and customs and ability to promote and incorporate into the workplace programs and services

  • Understanding and fluency of Anishinabemowin is a strong asset

  • Valid Driver’s License is required

  • Medical and TB testing certification

  • CRC/VSS requirement must be thirty (30) days current and be an original or certified copy.


The successful candidate will be required to submit a current thirty (30) day CRC/VSS; and an offer of employment is contingent upon the receipt of a satisfactory CRC/VSS record.
