Job Description - Child Care Worker


                                                                           CHILD CARE WORKER




GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 


 


The Child Care Worker is a full-time permanent program position. The Child Care Worker provides direct services to children who are in temporary or long-term care of the Agency.  The Child Care Worker provides case management services to ensure the needs of the child are met according to Kitapinoonjiiminaanik Family Services philosophy, First Nation standards, and Provincial regulations and standards. The Child Care Worker provides guidance and support to children leaving care to prevent return to care system.


 


RESPONSIBILITY:



The Child Care Worker reports to the Resource Manager in all aspects of job functions and will exercise the following duties under the supervision of the Resource Manager



QUALIFICATIONS:


 



  • Master of Social Work Degree or Bachelor of Social Work Degree. However, a combination of skills, education and experience may be considered.


 



  • Thorough knowledge of the Child Youth and Family Services Act and Regulations, particularly in the applications relating to Customary Care of the First Nations, and provincial court procedures


 



  • Expert knowledge of Customary Care and the philosophy of service development and delivery; the communities and family structure, as well as local First Nation customs and traditions.


 



  • Working knowledge of the administrative structure and operations of Kitapinoonjiiminaanik Family Services including the service delivery model, policies, procedures and guidelines.


 



  • Strong commitment to help Anishinaabe children and their families by providing services in ways that respect Anishinaabe cultural and spiritual practices.


 



  • Commitment to provide services in the Anishinaabe context of extended family and community involvement.




  • Knowledge of and experience in traditional and contemporary healing practices with experience working with Elders, Healers and Clinicians.


 



  • Expert knowledge of the KFS case management model, its procedures and documentation requirements.


 



  • Expert knowledge of provincial regulations and standards with a proven ability to meet deadlines.


 



  • Ability to take direction and work within the Agency’s philosophy, policies, procedures, and guidelines, as well as provincial regulations and standards.


 



  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary Child Welfare team.


 



  • Working knowledge of group dynamics, consultation and conflict resolution techniques.


 



  • Ability to establish and maintain trusting relationships with children and their families.


                                         



  • Ability to establish and maintain purposeful relationships with Management, staff, Alternative Care Home providers, Community Care Teams, and all other relevant service providers.




  • Sound knowledge of human behavior theories with the ability to apply in assessment and planning.


 



  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work effectively with children of a wide range of developmental, social and family backgrounds.


 



  • Superior oral and written and communication skills.


 



  • Excellent time management, planning, organization, problem-solving, decision-making, and liaison skills.




  • Experience working with a computerized database.


 



  • Committed to always ensure the highest level of confidentiality.


 



  • Ability to flex daily work hours as determined by the Resource Manager.


 



  • You must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and be willing to travel.


 



  • Must provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Check including a Vulnerable Sector check, and


         Driver’s Abstract; and




  • Ability to speak Ojibway is preferred and a definite asset.
