We're Hiring! 

arc programs is accepting applications for a full-time Child, Youth and Family Counsellor to join the Nakusp Services Program to start in early January 2026.

This is a hybrid role, with responsibilities in the following service areas:.

• Family Advancement Services


• Supervised Visitation Program


• Youth Support Services


• Childcare Skills Acquisition Services

Hours / Schedule:

• Full-Time, Permanent 


• Based on 32 hours per week 

Service hours will be delivered on a flexible basis, and may include evening and weekend hours, to meet the needs of clients referred to the program.

The successful candidate will provide limited on-call, after hours support for families in crisis. Most services will be provided on an outreach / in-home basis.

Please note that this role requires extensive travel outside of Nakusp, and covers a vast service area, which includes New Denver, Fauquier, Edgewood and Silverton.

The successful applicant will be provided with a company vehicle.

Responsibilities:

Child, Youth and Family Counsellors will  provides direct behaviour intervention, counselling, education and support services for referred children, youth and parents/caregivers in Nakusp, Arrow Lakes, and the Slocan Valley.

The successful applicants’ responsibilities would include:

• Supervising visits between children / youth and their parents or caregivers to provide a positive and safe environment which supports ongoing family connections.


• Providing transition services to youth who are or are at risk of becoming significantly disengaged from their families / caregivers, their natural communities, pro-social connections, and / or the education system.


• Providing individual counselling to improve child / youth involvement in school, employment, and pro-social activities, and to acquire identified life-skills.


• Using a social-educational skill acquisition model to provide 1:1 support to children and youth with behavioural challenges and / or family conflict; and to enhance daily living and developmental skills.


• Providing parent / caregiver coaching, education and support based on identified needs and priorities.


• Improving parent and child / youth or sibling interactions and decreasing conflict.


• Facilitating support groups for parents / caregivers to enhance connections, provide education and promote skill development.


• Working with parents / caregivers to identify natural supports, improve health and general functioning, and to overcome concerns contributing to distress.


• Facilitating family, child and / or youth connections with relevant community services, and overcome barriers to accessing supports.


• Collaborating with MCFD Social Workers and other collateral service providers to establish comprehensive goals, and to facilitate the coordination and integration of services.


• Participating in Integrated Case Management (ICM) meetings.


• Implementing and maintain required case management and clinical records.

Other Skills and Attributes:

• Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of strengths-based family systems and attachment-based support.


• Working knowledge of the CPS (Collaborative Proactive Solutions) model.


• Ability to establish trusting relationships with children, youth and families.


• Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.


• Group facilitation skills.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Educational requirements:

• A bachelor’s degree in a Social Services discipline (BSW, BA-CYC, BA in Psychology etc) and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is
  


• Candidates must possess a valid Driver's License, and a sound personal vehicle to provide outreach support, and transportation for families when required.


• Successful applicants will be subject to a screening process, including a criminal record search, to confirm suitability for the position.

Preferred Types of Related Experience can include:

• Child, youth and family counselling.


• Youth and family substance-misuse counselling program.


• Parenting skills training / support programs


• Specialized care (group care) programs for youth

Other Requirements

Given the nature of our work, please note that all shortlisted candidates:

• Need a valid BC Driver's License, regional insurance, and a reliable personal vehicle.


• Must undergo a screening process, including a criminal record search.

Wage / Benefits:

$ 29.75 - $ 31.25  per hour based on experience and education. 

Upon successful completion of a trial period, this position is eligible for a full benefit package (including dental plan, vision coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage, long-term disability plan, and RRSP or TFSA contributions); as well as accrued vacation and sick time at 5.8% - above BC Employment Standards!
