Job Description - CIP Sanitation

Description

Key Responsibilities

CIP Operations

  • Operate CIP systems to clean and sanitize tanks, pipelines, fillers, pasteurizers, pumps, and processing equipment.
  • Prepare and verify cleaning solutions, concentrations, temperatures, flow rates, and cycle times.
  • Monitor sanitation cycles and troubleshoot basic CIP operating issues.
  • Inspect equipment following sanitation activities to ensure cleanliness and readiness for production.
  • Assemble and disassemble equipment as required for proper cleaning and sanitizing.

Food Safety & Quality

  • Follow all GMP, HACCP, SQF, CFIA, and company food safety procedures.
  • Conduct visual inspections and sanitation verification activities.
  • Complete environmental and equipment swabbing as required and report any non-conformances.
  • Ensure all sanitation records are completed accurately and on time.
  • Immediately report food safety, quality, or sanitation concerns to supervision.

Equipment & Maintenance Support

  • Perform basic preventive maintenance activities involving gaskets, seals, O-rings, valves, and product-contact components.
  • Identify damaged equipment or sanitation deficiencies and communicate corrective actions.
  • Support sanitation-related changeovers and production start-up activities.
  • Assist with troubleshooting sanitation and equipment issues.

Housekeeping & Sanitation

  • Maintain cleanliness of production areas, floors, walls, ceilings, drains, equipment, and workspaces.
  • Support the Master Sanitation Schedule.
  • Safely handle cleaning chemicals and sanitation materials.
  • Maintain sanitation tools and storage areas in a clean and organized condition.

Health & Safety

  • Follow all plant safety policies and procedures.
  • Wear required PPE at all times.
  • Participate in health and safety initiatives and reporting programs.
  • Perform duties in a safe and productive manner.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of manufacturing, food processing, dairy processing, sanitation, or production experience preferred.
  • Experience operating CIP systems is considered a strong asset.
  • Previous dairy, beverage, or food manufacturing experience preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of sanitation practices, GMPs, HACCP, and food safety standards.
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Ability to follow SOPs and sanitation procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kg (55 lbs).
  • Comfortable working in wet environments, around chemicals, and within food processing facilities.

Working Conditions

  • Rotating shifts, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays as required.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, hot water systems, steam, and production equipment.
  • Fast-paced dairy manufacturing environment.
