Senior-level field manager responsible for overseeing all on-site concrete operations, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and according to strict engineering specifications. While a Project Manager handles administrative and financial aspects, the Superintendent is the primary leader on the job site.
Core Responsibilities
The role is multifaceted, focusing on three pillars: safety, quality, and schedule.
Field Operations & Coordination
Subcontractor Management: Direct and coordinate the daily activities of various trades and subcontractors, such as excavators, ironworkers (reinforcing steel), and formwork specialists.
Resource Allocation: Manage on-site machinery, tools, and labor to optimize productivity and minimize waste.
Logistics: Coordinate material deliveries (e.g., ready-mix concrete, rebar) and ensure site security, including fencing and lighting.
Project Planning & Scheduling
Look-ahead Schedules: Develop and manage "3-week look-ahead" schedules to anticipate upcoming work and prevent bottlenecks.
Blueprint Interpretation: Meticulously study and interpret civil site plans, grading drawings, and concrete specifications to ensure accurate execution.
Site Inspections: Conduct daily walk-through to verify that work aligns with project plans and milestones.
Safety Leadership
Mentor and develop a positive safety culture onsite. Enforce all safety protocols (e.g., COR), conduct toolbox talks, and ensure a zero-incident environment and identify/mitigate site hazards.
Quality Assurance (QA/QC)
Ensure concrete work (formwork, steel reinforcement, pouring) complies with project drawings, specifications, and design requirements.
Arrange for soil and concrete testing (e.g., slump tests, cylinder breaks) and ensure compliance with building codes.
Documentation: Maintain detailed daily logs of manpower, weather, equipment usage, and progress.
Liaison & Communication
Stakeholder and Client Communication: Act as the primary on-site contact for project manager, engineers, and municipal inspectors.
Problem Solving
Resolve on-site disputes, coordinate responses to RFIs (Requests for Information), and address unexpected delays or design conflicts.
Essential Skills
Technical Proficiency: Deep knowledge of earthworks, grading, excavation, concrete forming, and underground utilities.
Leadership: Ability to mentor foremen, manage diverse teams, and make critical decisions under pressure.
Technology: Proficiency in project management and scheduling software like Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, MS Project, and Primavera P6.

5+ years of civil construction experience.
Extensive experience with concrete, formwork, and earthwork.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
