Job Description - Civil Engineer

About Island Gold District: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Through ongoing exploration success, Island Gold District’s Mineral Reserves and Resources have continued to grow in size and quality. The Phase 3+ Expansion of Island Gold to a production rate of 2,400 tpd from the current rate of approximately 1,200 tpd will involve various infrastructure investments. These include the development of a shaft and related facilities, paste backfill plant, mine water treatment facilities, an expansion of the Magino process plant and tailings facility, and power supply upgrades. Following the completion of the shaft in 2026, the operation will transition from trucking to skipping ore and waste to surface through the new shaft infrastructure, driving production higher and unit costs significantly lower.


Role Overview/Purpose:    


Reporting to the Phase 3+ Plants Area Project Manager, the Field Engineer will be involved with the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of all facilities associated with the Plants area.


The successful candidate will have experience in engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of mining process plants. As an experienced field engineer, the candidate will lead and manage various aspects of the engineering and construction management of all facilities associated with the plants.


Current plant facility construction includes:



  • Paste backfill plant.

  • Mill expansion.

  • Haul truck maintenance shop.

  • Mine water treatment plant.

  • Haul roads.


Primary Responsibilities:           



  • Ensure that engineering work is completed and adequately reviewed by the relevant stakeholders in line with the project budget and schedule.

  • Ensure that the engineering design is aligned with the project budget and performance expectations.

  • Development of comprehensive, clear, specific scopes of work and other relevant procurement documents.

  • Work closely with contractors to ensure requests for information (RFIs) are quickly addressed and closed.

  • Work closely with the construction team and consultant engineering team to mitigate design and constructability issues.

  • Participate in the development of requests for proposals and contractor selection.

  • Assure that proper warehousing and storage exists to ensure environmental protection.

  • Assist in the development and execution of project schedules and tracking project milestones.

  • Monitor project costs and identifying potential cost savings.

  • Ensure compliance with industry codes and best practices.

  • Coordinate of pre-commissioning testing with contractors and commissioning of various infrastructure.

  • Vendor coordination.

  • Information exchange with operational readiness group.

  • Other activities as required.

    Working Conditions:



    • The role is located at the Magino Mine, which is approximately 88 kilometres northeast of Wawa, Ontario, Canada.

    • The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 7 days on / 7 days off (11 hour days).

    • Magino promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
