Job Description - Civil Inspector

LOCATION: Prince George, BC (Hybrid)

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full Time, Permanent

At Maven, we build what communities depend on — power, water, gas, and other essential systems that keep communities connected and thriving. Our success is driven by our people: motivated professionals who bring expertise, collaboration, and commitment to every project.

As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a construction professional to join our inspection team and perform quality control and quality assurance construction inspections in the Prince George area.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for a portfolio of civil construction projects for our power utility client, including ongoing capital and maintenance projects of varying sizes.

Responsibilities:

The core responsibilities include:

  • Conduct quality assurance inspections of civil works, including underground duct banks, ditch infilling, dike construction and modifications, pilasters, culvert and bridge installations, concrete structures, and utility infrastructure installations such as transformer pads, service boxes, and junction boxes.
  • Work in and around manholes, including water management, pumping, confined space entry, and traffic control.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with client and company standards, contract documents, design drawings, and applicable specifications, including adherence to Quality Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Review preliminary designs and client work packages and provide recommendations on constructability, suitability, and applicability.
  • Coordinate and facilitate project meetings, including pre-job scope meetings with stakeholders, contractors, and internal teams, as well as ongoing project status and site reviews.
  • Provide technical and design support during construction, including resolving field-related challenges (e.g., unstable soils, topographical constraints) and supporting the preparation of accurate record drawings.
  • Complete project documentation including daily reports, forms, and other construction records, and maintain accurate filing in centralized systems (e.g., OneDrive).
  • Report compliance issues, deficiencies, and violations to the project team.
  • Conduct final inspections to verify completion in accordance with approved as-built drawings and project specifications.
  • Compile and issue project or phase completion documentation, including formal close-out and acceptance letters.

Who we are looking for:

  • Diploma or Certificate in Civil Engineering Technology and at least two years of progressive, directly related experience.
  • Knowledge of engineering-related sub-professional practices, including basic design, surveying, inspection, and construction related to public utilities.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in civil electrical infrastructure construction; experience inspecting civil underground infrastructure is an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of standards, contract specifications, and materials used in utility construction. Prior knowledge of ES54 standards is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural, civil, and utility drawings and assess their impact on design and construction.
  • Strong planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills in English.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, including email and report writing.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions on active construction sites.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites in and around Prince George as required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract and access to a reliable vehicle are required.

You MAY have the follow qualifications:

  • Registered or eligible for registration with ASTTBC as an Applied Science Technologist, or equivalent.
  • Electrical utility design and construction experience
  • Have knowledge of construction management and coordination practices.
  • Certified Public Works Inspector
  • Working knowledge of relevant design codes, standards, and guidelines such as: MMCD, NBCC and CSA standards, CDA Guidelines, USACE Manuals, MOTI Utilities manual, etc.
