The Civil  / Structural Engineer in Training is an excellent opportunity to get into the specialized world of energy transmission. Based in our Vancouver office you will build your career within our industry leading T&D Lines team. In this fulfilling position, you will get exposure to some of the most high-profile Transmission projects in Western Canada. Employing your sharp analytical capabilities and sound judgment, you'll navigate complex design obstacles, championing leading-edge methodologies that elevate CIMA+'s engineering prowess. This position could be based in our offices in Vancouver, Kelowna, Edmonton, Calgary or Regina.

Primary Responsibilities   

• Under the supervision of a professional engineer, perform the structural design of overhead transmission lines (route selection, structures, foundations, hardware assemblies) and associated facilities for voltages from 60kV to 500kV  
• Develop safe engineering solutions through design, problem analysis, and interpreting specifications for medium complexity utilities projects.   
• Assist project/operations management in meeting safety, cost, quality, and schedule targets by proposing plan changes, recommending contractor payments, preparing progress reports, and coordinating work schedules   
• Resolve highly technical and unusual design and field engineering problems through independent studies, analysis, exercising judgment in information selection, and recommending safe engineering designs   
• Contribute to CIMA+'s engineering practices by conducting studies, developing technical standards, exercising judgment in information evaluation, recommending designs, and providing guidance to other engineers   
• Deliver exceptional customer service by defining engineering scope with clients, establishing design criteria, approving technical documentation, and assessing/reporting progress against standards and objectives for safe, quality, budget-compliant, and timely project completion   
• Perform design tasks under the direct supervision of a professional engineer.  
• Prepare project documentation like reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis, and test plans per CIMA+’s practices   
• Develop design work packages with scope, duration, and effort estimates, and manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost for existing and new facilities   
• Offer technical assistance, construction support, and field reviews as required   
• Apply loads, design criteria, seismic analysis per regulatory and industry standards, considering associated civil, mechanical, electrical systems like foundations, lightning protection, conductors, and hardware   

• University Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent experience   
• Registered member of a Professional Engineering association in BC/ Canada, or eligible for registration in BC as an EIT  
• Proficient in design/analysis software and CAD systems, along with familiarity of drawing standards   
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)   
• Excellent communication abilities in English – written and verbal  (French is an asset)  
• Experience in design tasks including scope, schedule and cost control
