Autoport Limited is looking for a Claims & Inspections Manager at its facility located in Eastern Passage!
The Claims Manager (CM) is responsible for overseeing damage claims and damage/theft-related insurance processes for the organization. This role provides meaningful data and insights to promote continuous improvement in damage prevention, vehicle handling, and claims management. The Claims Manager is accountable for operational excellence and flawless execution in the day-to-day inspection and claims processes, while supporting organizational objectives related to cost containment, safety, and service quality.
The Claims Manager works collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders to ensure claims are investigated, resolved, and processed efficiently, while supporting long-term improvements in inspection standards, insurance processes, and operational performance.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Operational and Service Excellence
Manage damage claims and associated processes, ensuring investigations and payments are completed within 30 days of filing.
Review escalated or impasse claims and collaborate with Autoport and CN multifunctional departments to achieve resolution and implement process improvements where required.
Collaborate with internal departments on insurance renewals, identifying risks and opportunities for premium cost savings.
Ensure inspections are completed on time, meeting quality standards in a cost-effective manner.
Coordinate with interdepartmental managers to understand operational priorities and ensure yard fluidity.
Work with internal teams (Traffic, IT, Service, etc.) to streamline inspection documentation and improve efficiency.
Partner with internal and external stakeholders to continuously improve inspection performance and resolve disputes.
Cost Containment
Support cost-saving initiatives by identifying opportunities to reduce claims and damages.
Perform quarterly analysis of claims spend to identify trends, risks, and cost-saving opportunities.
Conduct ad-hoc analyses focused on improving vehicle handling, claims processing efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
Manage theft and major damage data collection, validation, and analysis in collaboration with CN Police and terminal teams to support security monitoring and theft reduction initiatives.
Review damage inspection and vehicle handling processes to foster collaboration between damage prevention teams, terminal teams, and claims analysts, with a focus on identifying repeat damage trends.
Serve as the primary inspections subject matter expert for OEMs, ocean liners, inspection companies, and carriers.
Coordinate and align inspection standards (transportation damage and non-transportation damage) with stakeholders.
Ensure damage reporting to stakeholders meets 24-hour timelines to avoid liability exposure for Autoport.
People and Leadership
Foster a culture of trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement, encouraging professional challenge and innovation.
Drive accountability and decision-making through coaching, feedback, and recognition.
Ensure the right people are in the right roles, supporting development through stretch assignments and learning opportunities.
Coach and manage a team of five, ensuring engagement, performance, and achievement of objectives.
Implement training programs and ensure compliance with safety procedures.
Manage shifts and teams, including investigating and resolving disciplinary matters.
Plan labor requirements to align staffing levels with volume demands and prevent employee burnout.
IT and Innovation
Manage and maintain the Autoport claims Power BI application, updating data on a monthly basis.
Identify and support tools and automation initiatives to improve data collation, analysis, claims centralization, and historical learning, reducing reliance on manual processes.
Qualifications and Requirements
Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word, and Power BI.
Meticulous attention to detail with a high standard of accuracy.
Knowledge of accounting and payroll principles.
Strong understanding of company policies and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to navigate sensitive conversations professionally.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, tact, discretion, and initiative when handling investigations and inquiries.
Proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
Ability to organize, prioritize, schedule, and delegate work in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in French is considered an asset.
Post-secondary education with a focus on project management and data analysis.
Minimum of two years’ experience leading teams; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
