Reporting to the Manager, Continuing Care, the Clerk Interpreter will provide professional and responsive confidential translation and facilitation support services between patients/clients and the health services team. This position impacts the public and the community at large as it is the key entry point for health services, patient complaints, referral and information services. As a result, the position requires a good knowledge of Inuktitut and/or Inuinnaqtun as well as English, both written and spoken. In addition, the role also provides one of the main Inuktitut/Inuinnaqtun speaking resources for the regional office.
The Clerk Interpreter is also responsible for performing primary clerical support functions and may direct others in the delivery of such services with the administrative/clerical components of the office.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a minimum of Grade 10 and one year of interpreting/translation experience. A valid driver’s license may be required in some locations.
WHMIS Certification and Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Service certificate must be completed within the first year of employment.
Current CPR/First Aid certification and Mental Health First Aid is an asset. Training will be provided to successful candidate within the first year.
This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
