CLINICAL EXTERN - RESPIRATORY THERAPY STUDENT (1 Position)

(TEMPORARY PART TIME or TEMPORARY CASUAL)

Groves Memorial Community Hospital (GMCH) is currently accepting applications for a temporary part time or temporary casual Clinical Extern to join our Respiratory Therapy team.

POSITION SUMMARY

The RT Clinical Student Extern will be working as part of an interdisciplinary team in the capacity of an unregulated health care provider.  The RT Extern will support the operations of the Groves Respiratory Therapy department. The RT Extern practices under direct and/or indirect supervision of the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) assigned to them, or members administrative leadership teams of the department. RT Externs are not permitted to perform any controlled acts.

RT Externs will be hired by contract, during which the RT Extern will work part-time hours. The scheduling of these hours will be determined based on department needs and will be day shifts. RT Externs may be assigned to stock management related tasks involving respiratory equipment and supporting daily checks and maintenance on respiratory devices (eg BiPAP, Airvo and Ventilator).

These positions are non-union.

DUTIES

• Working in collaboration with regulated and unregulated health care professionals in their assigned area


• Assisting with patient positioning & repositioning (Stretcher, patient bed, wheelchair)


• Helping organize and support restocking of Code blue carts (intubation trays, airway supplies)


• Handing out questionnaires and assisting with pulmonary function testing


• Assisting with the departmental duties such as filling paperwork, restock supplies and running supplies


• Assisting staff with cleaning and maintenance of respiratory equipment


• Liaising with appropriate members of the respiratory team to identify patient care or administrative needs


• Reporting patient observations to appropriate member of the care team (comfort or safety factors)


• Helping support all departments with respiratory supplies and equipment (Oxygen therapy)


• Other duties as assigned to support the respiratory team

QUALIFICATIONS

• Students must be in year 1 or 2 of a Respiratory Therapy program and working towards a recognized RRT diploma

HOURS OF WORK

• Minimum availability of 1 shift per week (preference for 2-3)


• Monday - Friday, daytime hours


• Flexible availability is preferred

SALARY

• $20.60 per hour
