The CNC Shop Team Lead is a hands-on leader responsible for overseeing daily operations in the CNC machining department. This role supports production goals by setting up and operating various CNC machines, mentoring team members, and ensuring high-quality, efficient machining practices. The Team Lead also serves as the point of contact when the Machine Shop Supervisor is unavailable. As the Team Lead, you will be leading a team of 8 machinists/operators.
Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 2:15 PM – 12:45 AM
· Interpret complex manufacturing drawings and technical specifications.
· Set up and operate a range of CNC machines, including:
o Okuma MB5000H
o Mazak QTN 350-II
o Mazak VCN-530C
o Doosan MX2500 LST
· Train and mentor both new and existing machinists to ensure consistent work quality and safety.
· Perform basic preventive maintenance and calibration on CNC equipment and tooling.
· Troubleshoot and resolve routine CNC machining issues to maintain production flow.
· May perform CNC programming tasks to support afternoon shift needs.
· Execute daily production plans as directed by scheduling and leadership.
· Work independently while adhering to standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
· Monitor and report on daily department performance and production metrics.
· Ensure all required paperwork and documentation is completed accurately and submitted on time.
· Troubleshoot production issues and coordinate additional support as required.
· Provide leadership coverage and act as the department lead in the absence of the CNC Supervisor.
· Other duties as assigned by your manager.
· Proven ability to perform all tasks required of CNC team members, with a strong understanding of machining processes, safety protocols, and quality standards.
· Must hold and maintain all necessary certifications and licenses required for CNC operations.
· Completion of formal training in a relevant trade.
· Red Seal Journeyperson Machinist certification or equivalent qualification preferred.
· Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience as a CNC Machinist.
· Preferred: At least 3 years in a lead or supervisory role; a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
· Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques, including 5S, Kanban, and One-Piece Flow.
· Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
