Job Description - Collections Agent

Salary Rate: $36,500 (100% time portion) – Check out the YMCA’s !

Location: Markham Centurian YMCA Centre

Work Hours: 8:00 am- 4:00 pm, is a hybrid position (2 days in office and 3 days at home)

Employment Type: Regular Full Time Salaried

The Collections Agent’s objective is to ensure the collection of outstanding accounts receivable for the YMCA of Greater Toronto. They are responsible for the assessment of overdue accounts related to Health and Fitness Centers, determine reason(s) for outstanding receivables by reviewing and verifying account documentation, and/or in coordination with YMCA Managers, collect amount overdue, and resolve outstanding balances.

In this role, you will:

  • Initiate contact with account holder via telephone to obtain or negotiate payment arrangements on past due accounts, while maintaining quality customer service.
  • Invest, track, and attempt to resolve payment issues by facilitating problem analysis and problem solving with the customer.
  • Document conversations with customers and update their payments and/or payment arrangements on account in the computer system.
  • Assist customers' questions and problems regarding account status, including reviewing payment schedules, discussing explanations for past due accounts, and clarifying payment policies.
  • Create and review documentation for accounts receivable and business practices to ensure policy and procedural consistency, and direct new collection strategies.
  • Prepare management reports on outstanding receivables' performance and status.
  • Manage customer inquiries and complaints regarding accounts receivable, credit, and collections matters.
  • Withdraw participants with delinquent accounts from YMCA services per AR procedures.
  • Identify and remove obstacles that stand in the way of individual team and business performance, advise of potential issues that could impact overall business, prioritize workflows, and ensure the most cost-effective campaigns.
  • Establish rapport and maintain effective relationship-building behaviors with staff and members. Represent the YMCA and the Association in a manner aligned with our mission and values in internal and external forums.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • You bring:

  • Post-secondary education in business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of 1-2 years collections experience within a customer service environment
  • Knowledge of the small claims court process an asset
  • Experience developing and implementing new collection policies, procedures and best practices at an organizational level
  • Proficient with standards computer programs, include Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, experience using Class and ACTIVENet preferred
  • Knowledge of YMCA programs an asset
  • Flexible regarding assigned work hours, including evening & weekends
  • Ability to work in an efficient manner independently and as part of a team
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with media contacts, members, staff and volunteers; excellent written communication skills.
