Position Overview

The Office of the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer is looking for a temporary full time Communications and Engagement Specialist to join its team until approximately April 30, 2026.
Responsibilities
This is an excellent opportunity for a communicator looking to join a nimble and collaborative team, and excel in a position that requires skills in relationship-building, strategic thinking, creativity, and the ability to balance multiple priorities. In this role, you will develop and implement communications plans that support the City’s strategic and annual plans, as well as emerging operational issues and initiatives. Your demonstrated experience will support the City in communicating about important initiatives including: developing communications strategies or supervising the creation of various communications tools to inform the public about key initiatives, their expected impacts and the opportunities for public involvement; liaising with the media on issues and questions related to the key initiatives; developing, or supervising the development of a wide range of written materials, including news releases, backgrounders, presentations, social media storytelling and digital content.
Requirements
Your qualifications include a diploma or degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related discipline and considerable related experience in a communications and/or community relations position, or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience. Considerable experience implementing communications plans on complex and/or controversial topics; experience working on or supporting community engagement exercises on public issues; and experience working with and communicating to diverse community groups is required. Your strategic communication skills include excellent written and spoken communication, issues management and understanding of community and partner relationships. A demonstrated interest and experience supporting equity-deserving communities and municipal or public service experience is an asset. A valid Class 5 BC driver’s license is required.
For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
Compensation
$46.07 – $54.44 per hour
(Pay Grade 26, January 2024 rates)

Hours of Work
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately every three-week scheduling cycle.
