Communications Officer (Digital Content and Design)
SeedChange | Communications & Fundraising
Part-time (28 hrs/week, 80% FTE, Band 2, Step 1 Starting Salary $70,629.14 - pro-rated) | Ottawa-based, with telework flexibility — remote options in Canada considered | Unionized position
About the Role
SeedChange is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Communications Officer (Digital Content and Design) to help bring our partner-driven work to life.
You're a natural fit for this role if you can translate complex, nuanced ideas into compelling visual content; you're fluent in design tools and platform-specific content strategy; you know how to execute multi-channel campaigns; and you're excited to put your creative skills toward advancing food sovereignty, agroecology, international solidarity, and climate justice.
As SeedChange's day-to-day digital communicator and designer, you'll transform our programs, advocacy, and impact into clear, on-brand content across digital and print channels — from social media assets and e-newsletters to website updates and campaign materials. You'll help ensure our brand voice stays consistent, our audience engagement stays strong, and our mission stays visible. You'll also manage day-to-day backend updates to our website, keeping content current and user-friendly.
Working closely with the Communications Manager and reporting to the Director, Outreach & Partnerships, you'll collaborate cross-departmentally to ensure our communications reach the right audiences, in the right format, at the right time.
What You'll Do
Graphic Design & Visual Production (30%) Lead the design and layout of communications materials across social media, e-newsletters, reports, presentations, campaigns, and print. Create original visuals and multimedia — graphic design assets, photography-based content, short videos, and simple animations — that translate advocacy priorities and programmatic work into clear, accessible content, while maintaining SeedChange's brand and visual identity.
Digital Communications Production & Delivery (30%) Produce, format, schedule, and publish content across social media, email, and web platforms. Monitor digital channels and sector conversations for timely opportunities and trends, support campaigns through strong content planning, track engagement metrics, and help amplify partner campaigns and connect with aligned organizations online.
Content Development & Storytelling (15%) Develop engaging, public-facing stories that bring SeedChange's work, values, and impact to life. Adapt internal material for digital and visual channels, and capture and curate photo/video content from events, campaigns, and organizational activities.
Website Content & Design (15%) Keep website content — text, images, layout, and downloadable resources — accurate, current, accessible, and easy to navigate. Improve content presentation within existing platform capabilities and flag technical issues or gaps for follow-up.
Asset Management & Production Support (5%) Maintain design templates, files, and the organization's visual asset library, supporting consistency and efficiency across communications production.
Organizational Contribution & Other Duties (5%) Contribute to team learning and a collaborative, mission-driven culture, participate in planning and cross-program collaboration, and represent SeedChange at relevant meetings, conferences, or sector events.
