Location: Chief John Jonas Centre – Dawson, YT

Standard Hours Bi-Weekly:  75 


Start Date: Immediately 


End Date: September 30, 2025 with possible extension


Salary: Level 7 Step 1 ($3,410.25 bi-weekly)

Under the direction and supervision of the Social Programs & Services Manager, the Community Outreach Wellness Worker is responsible for coordinating and facilitating individual and group support alcohol and drug programs for Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in citizens in the areas of education, prevention, pre-treatment, residential treatment, aftercare, and outreach / street services.  The position works with Yukon Alcohol and Drug Services and designs and implements TH cultural-based alcohol and drug programs and initiatives. The incumbent employs a collaborative and case management approach to TH services, including crisis interventions, assessments, and referrals. The position is a part of the on-the-land healing program and will work alongside a team of staff including, the Nänkäk Chèholay (Land of Plenty) team and the Wellness Department team, to provide the necessary supports for citizens on their healing journeys.    


 


An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:  



  • Post-Secondary Diploma / Degree in Social Work, Addictions Counselling or other social and humanities fields, combined with a minimum of two years of related work experience including program coordination. An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills and knowledge will be considered.   

  • In-depth knowledge of addictions, alcohol and drug abuse, FASD, family abuse, FASD, family violence, sexual abuse, child abuse and neglect. 

  • Knowledge of community referral programs and services. 

  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in government structure, culture, traditions, history, demographics, family structures, socio-economic dynamics, challenges and aspirations, basic phrases of the Hän language, as well as the intergenerational impacts of residential schools on individuals, families, and communities. 

  • Knowledge in organizing on-the-land camps, outings, activities, and events that support and align programs and initiatives with TH cultural values and traditional teachings and practices. 

  • Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating presentations, facilitating workshops, program & event planning. 

  • Experience in assessing, developing, and implementing case management plans. 

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare reports and proposals.

  • Class 5 driver’s license with clear driver’s abstract.  

  • Remote First Aid, or willingness to obtain.

  • Smart Recovery Program Facilitator Training, or willingness to obtain.

  • TH101 cultural awareness.
