Job Description - Compliance Investigator

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) is the province’s medical regulator. We have a mission to serve the public interest in Ontario’s health system, ensuring patients receive quality care from fully trained, highly competent, deeply compassionate, and ethically guided doctors. 


We are seeking an analytical and detail-oriented Compliance Investigator to join the Compliance Monitoring team. The Compliance Monitoring department is responsible for the oversight and monitoring of CPSO committee outcomes, including orders, undertakings and decisions from five College committees.


As a Compliance Investigator, you will work independently to analyze the outcomes of the College committees to determine and act on the appropriate monitoring requirements, including education, supervision, reassessments, and restrictions for complex case files.  You will use a variety of information sources to monitor education and remediation activities by physicians and any restrictions imposed on physicians' certificates of registration. You will make appropriate and timely inquiries about physician compliance and conduct visits to physician practices as needed. You will draft clear and concise reports for submission to the appropriate committees. You will meet established benchmarks and timelines for various monitoring activities. You will maintain and use tracking systems to establish priorities and long term follow-up.


You will use your effective interpersonal skills to liaise with stakeholders such as Investigators, Medical Advisors and Legal staff, as well as members, their counsel and College assessors. You will be required to attend committee meetings to respond to questions from the committee. In addition, you will participate in continuous improvement initiatives and well as regular operational and data reviews.


18 month contract position available


 Qualifications:



  • A University degree required in healthcare, and a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience;

  • Excellent analytical skills with proven ability to manage complex workload with minimal oversight and to achieve challenging goals;

  • Superb time management and organizational skills with a preference for case management experience;

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to liaise with all levels of stakeholders;

  • Knowledge of the Regulated Health Professions Act, administrative law principles and other relevant legislation preferred;

  • An understanding of health care systems, key stakeholders and medical terminology would be an asset as well as a background in risk or general management;

  • Advanced proficiency with Windows 10 and Office 365;

  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License and ability to travel within Ontario.


Additional Information
• It is a fundamental requirement of employment at CPSO that employees reside in Ontario and can attend the College office as required.
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required (minimum two doses).
• Hybrid, remote work with in-office attendance one day per week and/or more as needed.

Hiring Range (annual salary): $110,675 to $133,249.
