General Investigations Section (GIS) constables are members of a specialized uniform team that conducts risk-based and evidence focused investigations. The Missing Person Investigator (MPI) is responsible for all unsolved missing person investigations initiated in the Patrol Division. The MPI is a uniform position that may also be deployed to assist at emergencies, crime scenes and demonstrations/protests to bolster the organization’s response to in-progress incidents. GIS constables are proven investigators with a desire to mentor others and may be working toward a position in the Investigative Services Division.
Job Description:
Primarily a uniform position, working rotational 11.43 hour shifts following a (4-5-5) shifting model of day shifts and afternoon shifts
Complete detailed investigations and ongoing assessments to effectively manage the safety of and locate missing persons
Assist GIS centered investigations as directed
Backfill the Missing Person Coordinator position as directed by the GIS NCO
Build and maintain relationships with community partners
Effectively communicate with individuals and groups, work collaboratively with CSD’s outreach teams and community / partner agencies
Preferred Qualifications:
Must be a motivated self-starter and demonstrate strong team-work skills
Possess demonstrated interview and affiant skills
Ability to solve complex problems and conduct detailed investigations
Demonstrated ability working with community groups and partner agencies
Ability to multi-task and work effectively under compressed timelines
Advanced knowledge of BC Missing Person Investigation standards
Demonstrated interest locating missing persons
Proven abilities solving complex problems, financial tracking, crime scene management and knowledge of DNA evidence collection and processing
Demonstrated ability building connections with and interacting with marginalized people
